[Newsletter] Part 1: Ways to Beautify Your Heart

Published: Mon, 11/06/17

Assalamualaikum Wr Wb,

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Thank you for subscribing to our mailing list. InshaAllah this email finds you and your family in the best of health and imaan. May the peace and blessings of Allah SWT be upon you and your family, inshaAllah.

This week's newsletter will be a 2 part series titled Ways to Beautify Your Heart and Character. We will be sharing with you Part 2: Ways to Beautify Your Character next week inshaAllah. Now let's get to Part 1: Ways to Beautify Your Heart.

Beautifying the State of the Heart
The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Oh Allah, You have made my creation perfect, so make my moral characteristics also be the best." [Bulugh al-Maram]

There is so much to learn from this simple act of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH); from remembering Allah at all times, to the fact that He didn’t ask for more beauty to his features, rather he praised Allah for what he already has, and then he focused on asking Allah to beautify his character in the best way.

There has always been an emphasis on beautifying our character in our religion. The Prophet  said, “Nothing is heavier on the believer’s Scale on the Day of Judgment than good character.” [Jami’ at-Tirmidhi]

‘Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “Allah does not look at your figures, nor at your attire but He looks at your hearts and accomplishments.”’ [Sahih Muslim]

Thus we should focus consciously every day on improving and beautifying the state of the heart, as it helps us attain good character and increases our overall productivity.

Beautifying the Inner Thoughts

     1. Pay attention to / discipline your inner thoughts

“And We have already created man and know what his soul whispers to him, and We are closer to him than [his] jugular vein.’” [Quran, Chapter 50, Verse 16]

Isn’t it amazing that even the thoughts that occur in our minds are known to Allah! Be it good or bad, Allah SWT knows. Our mind is like a reel, constantly playing thoughts in our head. It is our duty to control it and steer it to the right direction.

Has the action of someone ever disturbed and disrupted your entire day? Why does this happen? We let it consume our thoughts, constantly delve into it and are unable to focus on the rest of our tasks. Sometimes, it even affects our mood and enthusiasm for other tasks that are irrelevant to this matter. Unload this burden first, and see what a difference it makes to your day. We need to unlock and free ourselves so that we can move on. And only those who are busy
looking at their own mistakes will be capable of doing this.

When we feel accountable to Allah for the thoughts we have within, we consciously judge the matter with wisdom; does this deserve our negativity in the first place? Instead of holding grudges and having misunderstandings, if we practiced husnuzon (having good thoughts), it would make our hearts lighter, and assist us in focusing on other aspects of life, hence, increasing our productivity, happiness, and mental well-being.

     2. Remember the good in others, and experience Allah's Name Ash-Shakoor

That moment when someone angers you or tests your patience, remember the good in them. This reminds me of Allah’s beautiful name Ash-Shakoor – The Most Appreciative, The Most Grateful. Allah SWT says, “That He may give them in full their rewards and increase for them of His bounty. Indeed, He is Forgiving and Appreciative.” [Qur’an: Chapter 35, Verse 30]

What does Allah SWT have to be grateful for when He is the One to whom we are all grateful? Allah calls Himself Ash-Shakoor – The Most Appreciative, The Most Grateful, the Rewarder of good deeds. He is the One who gives abundantly, in response to little. He appreciates the smallest of deeds with unlimited appreciation. He even appreciates our intentions!

He is ever Appreciative of every emotion you go through for His sake; when being tested and you are patient for His sake, He is appreciative. When in blessing, if you are grateful, He increases you in favor. If Allah SWT, our Creator and Sustainer is so Appreciative, how grateful do we humans have to be?

Another way we can live with His name, Ash-Shakoor, is by asking Him to help us not to be ungrateful to others and ourselves. Our parents have done innumerable favours upon us since birth, and yet in that one moment when they don’t agree with us, we rage with fury and anger and forget all our gratefulness to them. Ask Allah  by His name, Ash-Shakoor, to help you never be ungrateful to those who deserve your appreciation, even at moments when they test your patience; just as you would want Allah SWT to appreciate all of your efforts, even when you make a mistake.

..........

We hope that what we've shared this week is beneficial and inspires you to become a better Muslim. May Allah guide us all, make our hearts dedicated solely to Him, and make us steadfast on our Deen. Ameen.

Stay tuned next week for Part 2: Ways to Beautify Your Character :)

Still I Rise

A woman is a powerhouse of strength and a reservoir of dignity. She was not created lightly, neither was she given life in vain. Her aura is akin to that strong ancient tree that everyone clings to for life and love. A tree with roots deep within the earth, yet branches far above the sky. Branches that support, nourish, and shelter everyone that they come in contact with - those who nest in permanently, and also those who fly away after brief rest. But the real strength of those branches lies in her deep and nurtured, yet unseen, roots - the faith in her heart, and the submission of her soul to her Only Creator and Sustainer. If she recognises this fact, she connects to the Source of All Strength and will never wither away, come storm or hail. And if she fails to see it, alas she lets go of her ethereal Divinely-gifted potential and sways to every gust of wind that seeks to imbalance her.

In this talk, we will look at the life of those awe-inspiring women of the past who chose to leave behind every cliché and label, who let go of selfish base desires that weaken them, who fought every thief seeking to loot their real identity - servant of the Most Loving, Most Gentle God. We will study about those women who chose to connect their roots to the Ever Living, the Source of love, the Source of patience; and in that process became the towering perennial trees whose shade we rest in even today.

Come, be inspired. Come, be enlightened.

Come... find your roots.

Islamic Funeral And Death Rites Course

Death is a very painful and emotional time, yet one that may be filled with hope and mercy. Muslims believe that death is a departure from the life of this world, but not the end of a person's existence. Rather, eternal life is to come, and we pray for Allah's mercy to be with the departed, in hopes that they may find peace and happiness in the next to come.

That is for the person who will face death. But how about the family or relatives? Its very easy to say stay calm and be strong but without the proper knowledge and guidance many a times that will not be the case. In some incidences, members of family breaks down and make irrational decisions which may cause more problems.

If this situation arises in your family, would you know what to do?

INFAQ: Infaq Mutton ( All year round )

Mission: To support mosques and muslim organisations by providing halal mutton for their events / majlis.

Throughout the year we have had requests from various organisations for sponsorship of mutton and often we have to reject them because we could raise funds only during certain periods like Ramadan, or when we have Aqiqah Australia projects where we could bring in the mutton from Australia.

To make this effort more sustainable and for us to be able to respond to requests, we have decided to run this project all year around.

This would also provide avenues for the community to continue supporting various events throughout the year. For Infaq Mutton ( All Year Round ), we will only raise funds for frozen mutton, as it is much easier to acquire and cheaper to purchase compared to fresh mutton.

If you wish to contribute for this cause, you may sponsor the following:

1kg - $18
2kg - $35
5kg - $85
10kg - $165
18kg - $295
36kg - $580
50kg - $780
100kg - $1500
200kg - $2800

Prices above will include butcher's cuts and delivery to beneficiaries. Banking and transactions fees are also included.

INFAQ: Free Food Friday

Free Food For All (FFFA) has a mission to prepare and serve 1,000 meals every Friday, which will be distributed at Sultan Mosque and Hj Mohd Salleh Mosque. The meals are meant for everyone and served on a first come first serve basis. FFFA believes that these are the times where harmony and peace among our brethren in humanity needs to be encouraged and supported. What better way to spread love and kindness then to FEED.

Free Food For All is a registered charity (UEN: 201503391Z) with a mission to promote and propagate a kind and caring Community by providing free halal food to the less fortunate, regardless of race or religion. From their inception till date, they are close to providing 200,000 meals to the Community.

Wish to contribute to this cause? You may make sponsorships in multiples of $25, $50, $100 and $1000.
