Why is Charity So Important in Islam?

INFAQ.SG

Zakat, or charity, is the third pillar of Islam. Several different categories of charity are defined in Islam, the two most important being zakat (obligatory charity) and sadaqah (voluntary charity). Zakat is a specific, standardised percentage of one's extra wealth (over and above the necessities of life) that must be given to the poor and those in need. Sadaqah can be given to anyone in many forms including a smile, wise advice, or helping to build a home or masjid.

The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Your smile for your brother is a charity. Your removal of stones, thorns or bones from the paths of people is a charity. Your guidance of a person who is lost is a charity." (Bukhari

Be careful of greed. The longer one holds onto money and fails to share it as charity, the harder it may be later on to part with that hoarded wealth. Hiding away one's wealth and depriving the needy of even a small kindness will not only come back to haunt the greedy, but their misfortune will be multiplied and they will be led down a misguided path.

The Prophet said: "Avoid doing injustice to others, for on the Day of Judgment, it will turn into manifold darkness, and safeguard yourself against miserliness, for it ruined those who were before you. It incited them to murder and treating the unlawful as lawful." (Muslim

INFAQ: Mutton ( All Year Round )

INFAQ: Mutton All Year Round

Mission: To support mosques and muslim organisations to provide halal mutton for their events / majlis.

Throughout the year we've had multiple requests from various organisations for sponsorship of mutton, and often we have to reject them because we could only raise funds only during certain periods like Ramadan, or when we have Aqiqah Australia projects where we can bring in the mutton from Australia.

To make this effort more sustainable, and for us to be able to respond to these requests, we decided to run this project all year round.

This would also provide avenues for the community to continue supporting various events throughout the year. For Infaq Mutton ( All Year Round ), we will only raise funds for frozen mutton, as it is much easier to acquire and cheaper to purchase compared to fresh mutton.

So far the total amount of mutton we have collected is 324kg, of which:
- 30kg was donated to Masjid Wak Tanjong
- 50kg was donated to Masjid Darul Makmur
- 100kg was donated to Masjid Ar-Rabitah
- most recently 30kg was donated to Masjid Mydin

We are now left with 114kg of mutton, of which 100kg will be donated to Masjid Maarof for their event this December.

Current Mutton Request:

  • No current request right now. We have 14kg of meat available.
If you are an event organiser for a non-profit organisation and would like to request for the meat, do write in to us at info@islamicevents.sg and we will do our best to help.

Infaq: Free Food Friday

The amount of meals distributed has been considerably less lately as this project is dependent on the community's contributions.
