After suffering from a series of fainting spells at work, Mdm Nor (not her real name) decided to go for health checkup. Her life took a turn when she was diagnosed with stage one breast cancer. Her health worsened through the months, forcing her to stop working as she had to undergo surgery and subsequently, chemotherapy sessions.
Relying on her husband as the sole breadwinner for their family of five, they soon faced financial issues as they had to keep up with the medical bills and household expenses. At the same time, their older children stepped in to care for the younger siblings, as well as Mdm Nor while she recuperated. With the assistance received under AMP's Adopt a Family & Youth Scheme (AFYS), Mdm Nor and her husband are currently going for skills upgrading and gradually increasing their
household income.
Mdm Nor’s family is among the beneficiaries under AFYS who are going through challenges in life. Your support towards our cause can help them in their effort towards changing their lives for the better.
Tune in to Mediacorp Radio WARNA 94.2FM on Friday, 12 January 2018 for our very first talkshow, where DJs Shaik and Mariam will be speaking to Mdm Nor, a beneficiary of AMP’s Adopt a Family & Youth Scheme (AFYS). She will share some of the struggles she faced as a cancer patient and in meeting her family’s needs.
Through AFYS, families like Mdm Nor’s are assisted with economic empowerment and socio-educational programmes in their journey towards self-reliance. Most importantly, AFYS helps to strengthen their family unit as they work towards building a better future for themselves.
