Giving Hope, Changing Lives
Memberi Harapan, Merubah Kehidupan
A mother's love for her child is like no other. When Mdm Wati's (not her real name) youngest child was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia, she decided to put her career on hold and care for him during his development years. It was, however, not an easy task for her as she experienced one mishap after another.
One of her distressing moments was when her son fractured his leg during a physical activity in school and had to be admitted to the hospital. She also learnt to deal with frequent meetings with her son’s school teachers whenever she received feedback about his disruptive behaviour in class.
There are many other beneficiaries under AMP’s Adopt a Family & Youth Scheme (AFYS) who are going through such challenges. While their stories may differ, their perseverance and determination to push through their adversities and to come out stronger is common to all of them.
Tune in to Mediacorp Radio WARNA 94.2FM on Friday, 2 February 2018 for our FINAL talkshow, where DJs Shaik and TG will be speaking to Mdm Wati who will share on the struggles of being a full-time caregiver for a child with special needs and how her family copes with their financial situation.
Through AFYS, families like Mdm Wati’s are assisted with economic empowerment and socio-educational programmes in their journey towards self-reliance. Most importantly, AFYS helps to strengthen their family unit as they work towards building a better future for themselves.
