Islam and Quran Promote Charity

INFAQ.SG

[ Quran 2:110 ]

Sadaqah is voluntary act of charity. Sadaqah doesn’t necessarily mean giving out wealth but it can be any simple act of Kindness that another human or even animal benefits from. It is a Sadaqah in way of Allah SWT to remove any difficulty from someone’s path as well as it is considered sadaqah to smile at someone or just offering a simple salam. Being kind to animals and taking care of their food is a charity. Offering water to a thirsty person or to help them with some burden are all considered charity and all these acts are rewarded by Allah SWT.

Giving anything in the way of Allah SWT is considered the highest form of charity. This means, anything which is given for Jihad and spreading of Islam has highest rewards. Sahabah used to rush to perform charity and wanted to outdo each other. They knew the meaning of charity and it rewards on the day of judgment. The best examples of charity can be found from the lives of Abu Bakr, Umar and Usman Ghani; who used to give all their money in the way of Allah SWT even if it meant that they sleep hungry for days. Such high examples of charitable deeds were set in the days of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to encourage other Muslims to perform charity as well.

From multiple mentions of charity given in the Quran and different examples in the Sunnah, we can conclude that charity is the essence of Islam and it has great importance in the lives of Muslim. The Muslim community thrives on charity. The effort Islam puts in financial check and balance for every member of the Muslim society shows its deep values for human rights.

It helps to build a strong society where the flow of wealth is even and basic human needs are met. Along with the help of those receiving charity, the Muslim who is giving charity also benefits from it in terms of increase in their faith. In Islam, charity is seen as multiplication of wealth in contrast to giving out money, which keeps reminding Muslims about the Hereafter and their accountability before Allah SWT. Thus Islam and the Quran heavily promote charity and every Muslim is rewarded with something which is way better than what he gives up in the way of Allah.

How will you give today?

NEW INFAQ PROJECT:

Infaq Nur Project

Imagine fleeing away from home and seeking refuge in another country where support is little and life is full of insecurities. Most of us wouldn't understand the plight of the Rohingyas but whenever we read about them in the news we know we can do a part to help their situation.

One of our partners Hezom International recently went down to Cox Bazaar @ Bangladesh where the Rohingya refugees are staying to distribute rations and supplies to them. While they were there, they surveyed and identified other needs besides food and shelter. They found out that the refugees need lighting, especially in the evening.

Nur Project For Rohingya
Our aim to is to provide electricity to them via solar panels. The package can light up a full tent area which caters for a family of 6-10 people.

Click here to watch the video.

Some Facts:

  • At the Rohingya refugee camps, there is no grid electricity connection.
  • Refugees use solar panels, candles and kerosene lamps for light at night.

Solar Panel Package
Each solar panel contains a number of photovoltaic solar cells, which are capable of converting direct sunlight into electrical power. During daylight hours, the panels on the roof collect the energy from the sun and feed it to an inverter. This even happens on cloudy days!

Each solar panel package consists of:
i) Solar panel
ii) Wirings
iii) Lightings
iv) Battery
v) Installation Service

1) How can I support this project?

  • You may support this project to infaq one set of solar panel for each family.

2) How much is each solar panel package?

  • Full Solar Panel Package - $315
  • Shared Solar Panel Package (shared with 5 other pax) - $70
Each solar panel package will cost around $315. You may infaq more than 1 solar panel package. The prices are inclusive of administrative costs, logistics, etc.

3) How many names can we insert onto the name board?
  • We allow up to 5 names. You can share 1 solar package with 5 friends/relatives/siblings/family/etc. You may also request to put "Hamba Allah"
  • We have an option of only purchasing 1 part of the solar package - which will be shared with 5 people. There'll be an additional cost due to the extra administration and printing & delivery of certificates.

4) How will I know when this project has been completed?

  • We estimate this will take 2 months from the time you register your infaq. If there is a large infaq volume, the process may be delayed and may take longer.

NEW INFAQ PROJECT:
Infaq Special Ability

Infaq Special Ability - Musollah.com

Have you ever been to a musollah and discovered that the sejadah or telekung is in a very bad state? Worry no more because now you can have them replaced at your convenience :)

Introducing Infaq Special Ability - Musollah.com

Musollah.com (founded and managed by IslamicEvents.SG) has played an important role in collecting and organising the data of the various musollahs made available throughout Singapore since 2007.

Since these musollahs are mostly set up by the community, there is no one particular individual or organisation who manages the prayer apparels or maintain them. As part of our extended efforts in rallying the community together to care for these musollahs, we are now launching an Infaq project or crowdfund campaign for the community who uses the musollah and wish to contribute.

For this project, we will be working with Brother Shamsul (a brother whose right limbs are paralysed due to an accident when he was young) to have the sejadah and telekung replaced. Even though all of his limbs are not as functional as a normal person, he can still utilise his left limbs to carry out the replacement safely. He has been looking for income for a very long time already and thankfully, this project hopes to provide him with some allowance.

Contributions for this Infaq project will be channeled to:

1. Transportation costs and allowance for Brother Shamsul for him to visit the musollahs and replace the prayer materials
2. The development and maintenance of the site Musollah.com
3. Purchasing of new sejadah and telekung*

*In the event when there are sufficient sejadah and telekung in our inventory, the contributions will go to Brother Shamsul's allowance.

During the replacement, Brother Shamsul will take photographs of the new sejadah and telekung at the musollah and these photographs will be emailed to the donor.

You can sponsor in amounts of $20 or $100.

For $20
- this contribution will go towards the overall fund of this Infaq project

For $100
- You are required to submit the musollah location where the replacements are needed
- Brother Shamsul will replace one sejadah and one telekung at the musollah within a one week period
- You will receive photographs of the replacement within two weeks. We will also provide updates via our weekly Infaq.SG newsletter.

How To Contribute?

- Sponsorships can be made in the following ways:
i) By Bank Transfer
ii) By PayPal / Debit/Credit Card

NEW INFAQ PROJECT:

INFAQ: Wakf Housing Project in Cambodia

Mission: To aid and provide poor families in Cambodia with proper housing.

While we are living in the comfort of our homes protected from the weather, others in different parts of the world may not share the same fate. Despite working day and night to support their families, they are still too poor to purchase land and build up their own houses. There are thousands of families living in poverty in Cambodia, and some of the houses are simply made of straw (as shown above). In this Wakf project, we aim to aid and provide these families with proper housing.

INFAQ.SG

This project, managed by Infaq.SG, will help to purchase a small piece of land and build up the houses for these poor families. One of our staff members, who travels every 2-3 months to Cambodia to send support, will be overseeing this project.
