[Newsletter] 2 March 2021: Fidyah, who should pay?

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from knowingly associating partners with You in any way, and I seek Your forgiveness for that which I do not know. Ameen.

WHAT IS FIDYAH?

Fidyah and Kaffara are religious donations made in Islam when a fast is missed or broken. The donations can be of food, or money, and it is used to feed those in need. They are mentioned in the Qur'an.

WHO HAS TO PAY FIDYAH?

1. People who leave the fast of Ramadan because of Uzur Syar'ie (traveler, menstruation or childbirth or wiladah) or illness for which there is hope of recovery.

It is obligatory to fast.

If until the next Ramadan he does not replace his fast, then it is obligatory for him to Qada' the fast and pay Fidyah.

2. A sick person who has no possibility or hope to cure and has been justified by the doctor that he should not fast.

It is not obligatory to Qada' the fast.
Must pay Fidyah in that year.

3. Pregnant women or those who are still breastfeeding their children who do not fast in the month of Ramadan due to:

• Worry only about her own health

Or

• Concerned about the health of herself and her fetus / child.

It is obligatory to fast.
It is not obligatory to pay fidyah.

If until the next Ramadan she does not replace her fast, then it is obligatory for her to Qada' the fast and pay Fidyah.

4. Pregnant women or those who are still breastfeeding their children who do not fast in the month of Ramadan due to:

• Concerned about the health of the fetus / child only.

It is obligatory to fast.
Must pay Fidyah.

5. People who have died and did not manage to replace their fast.

The responsibility of paying the Fidyah of the deceased is carried out by his heirs according to the number of days left

Heart of the Qur'an (Understanding Yaasin)

5th Session, Next Monday!

Unless we spend our lives reading the Book, studying its meanings, putting it into practice, and calling upon others to do the same, we will never fully experience this light, as well as its all-encompassing guidance and everlasting benefits.

Yaasin is a chapter familiar to many, it is one of the many favourites and frequently memorized due to the hadith of Ma'qil ibn Yassar in which is referred to as being the ‘Heart of the Qur'an'. The comparison, if anything, conveys the importance of this Surah.

We grew up listening/reciting it weekly at the very least. We often read it as a gift (sadaqah) to the deceased.

But is it that the only benefits that come from the Heart of the Qur'an?

The problem is the person's attitude towards money and understanding how to use it and manage it properly.

Love, Reflecting the Wisdom of The Beloved

2nd session, Starting Today!

Love is definitely an attribute that is very worthy of relearning. And there is no one else who does and portrays it better than our Prophet ﷺ himself who was sent as rohmatan lil 'alamiin, a mercy to the worlds.

In this new series of topical hadith, we will delve into the prophetic tradition to learn the different degrees of love we can (and must) apply in our life. How can we show love for our children, our relatives, our friends, even towards oursleves and most importantly, how to love Allah and his Prophet ﷺ.

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Love those who are on earth, hence those who are in the heavens will love you."
