Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from knowingly associating partners with You in any way, and I seek Your forgiveness for that which I do not know. Ameen.
Reading is the basic essence of human knowledge to obtain knowledge. By reading, a person has indirectly collected word for word in relating the meaning and direction of reading to be able to conclude something with the reason he has.
In Islam, reading is highly recommended. In fact, the command to read is the first revelation revealed by Allah s.w.t. to Rasulullah s.a.w. "Read with (mention) the name of your Lord Who created." (Al-'Alaq:1)
By reading, Muslims can gain useful knowledge. Useful knowledge is something that will be brought when returning to Rahmatullah along with amal jariyah and prayers of pious children.
Allah s.w.t. has also equipped human beings with intellect to be able to read and seek knowledge. The intellect distinguishes man from other living beings of God's creation. Therefore, man must use his intellect to seek knowledge.
Here are some benefits of reading books according to Islam based on the verses of the Qur'an.
1. Avoid Syaitan's Temptations
By reading the Qur'an, books, or Islamic textbooks, Muslims will be spared from the temptations of Syaitan. Reading and adding to knowledge will keep a servant on His path and avoid the path of Syaitan.
This is based on the words of Allah s.w.t. which reads: "Among the people there are those who argue about Allah without knowledge and follow every evil devil." (Al-Hajj: 3)
2. Abstain from Infidelity
Ibn Kathir explained that a person who uses his intellect and listens to the truth that Allah s.w.t. has revealed through His knowledge, he will certainly not become an infidel and become an inhabitant of hell. Ibn Kathir explained this based on the following words of God:
"And they say, if we had listened or pondered (the reminder) we would not have been among the inmates of the Blazing Fire." (Al-Mulk:10)
3. Avoid Ignorance/Jahiliyah
Ignorance is something that is highly recommended to be avoided in the teachings of Islam. That is because ignorance is very dangerous and can lead people into disobedience. Therefore, Muslims must always read and seek knowledge in order to avoid ignorance or ignorance.
Allah s.w.t. said, "O you who believe, if a wicked person comes to you with a news, then examine the truth, so that you do not harm a people because of ignorance (negligence), which eventually you regret your actions." (Al-Hujurat:6)
4. Elevated
Anyone who seeks knowledge or reads a book will be elevated by Allah s.w.t. People who seek science are much better than people who do not seek science.
Allah s.w.t. said, "O you who believe, when it is said to you: 'Make room in the assembly', then make room, surely Allah will give space for you. And when it is said: 'Stand up', then stand up, surely Allah will raise people Those of you who believe and those who have been given knowledge of degrees, and Allah is Aware of what you do. " (Al-Mujadalah:11)
5. Close to God
People who seek knowledge by reading books will always be close to Allah s.w.t. In addition, he will feel the fear of God so he always stays away from His prohibitions. This is based on the following verses of the Qur'an:
"And so (also) among mankind, moving creatures and livestock there are various colors (and types). Among the servants of God who fear Him, only the scholars. Indeed, God is Almighty Mighty, Forgiving. " (Fatir:28)
