Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from knowingly associating partners with You in any way, and I seek Your forgiveness for that which I do not know. Ameen.
As we all know, in the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w he had the opportunity to perform fardhu Hajj only once. This one Hajj is called Haji Wada', or Farewell Hajj, because after returning from performing Hajj, he fell ill and left us forever.
While performing Hajj Wada ', Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. had the opportunity to deliver his sermon to all Hajj pilgrims while in Arafah. Here is the gist of the following sermon:
1. Verily, your blood and property are noble. Your self-worth is preserved (haram for others) until you meet God, and holy as holy as this day (Arafah) as holy this month (Dzulhijjah), and as holy as this land (the land of Haram to Makkah) and its surroundings.
2. Whoever holds a trust between you, then he should return the trust to its rightful owner.
3. Remember! All kinds of practices and traditions of ignorance have come under the soles of my feet (I have completely erased them), which are not in accordance with Islamic law.
4. The demand for bloodguilt that occurred in the Jahiliyah era before Islam has been forgiven. And the blood claim that I canceled for the first time was the blood of Amir bin Rabiah bin al-Harith who was nursed by Bani Sa'ad and then killed by Hizail.
5. Riba (rent) is an economic system that is forbidden by Allah s.w.t. and I started by canceling it or abolishing usury which would be accepted by my uncle, Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib.
6. Put your trust in Allah s.w.t. in matters relating to women's affairs. Indeed, you have taken them as a mandate from Allah s.w.t., and they have been made lawful for you with the word of Allah s.w.t. Your wives have rights over you, just as you have rights over them.
Therefore, only you are allowed to sleep with them and touch their bed, and they are not allowed to enter someone you don't like into your house, except with your permission.
7. All believers are brothers; therefore, it is not lawful for a believer to take other people's property except after receiving justification from the owner.
8. After me, do not be disbelievers anymore, where some of you fight some others. I have left for you two heirlooms that if you stick to them, you will never go astray forever, namely the Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet of Hadith.
9. Indeed, after me there will be no more prophets, and after you there will be no more Uma. Therefore, I advise you to continue to worship Allah s.w.t., your Lord, to pray five times a day, to fast during Ramadan, to pay zakat sincerely, and to perform Hajj in the Baitullah, so that you will enter heaven.
10. Your God is one Almighty, your grandfather is also one, because you are from Adam and Adam has been created by Allah s.w.t. from the ground. The best or noblest among you is the one who fears Allah s.w.t. the most. There are no privileges for Arabs or non-Arabs (Ajam), except with Taqwa.
11. Allah s.w.t. has determined and established the right to receive inheritance for the family who died. Therefore, it is not permissible for the heir to inherit. Verily Allah's s.w.t. curse is upon a person who (admits to attributing) his father to someone who is not his father, also the curse of the angels and all mankind.
Wallahualam.
