Good practices that we do during Ramadhan should not stop there. It should be continued even after Ramadhan. Meaning, even during Eid these good practices can be practise and thus making the celebration of Eid not merely a festival or feast but the month of doing good and sharing happiness.

During Eid, as a sign of gratitude it is also recommended to increase the charity to the less fortunate, the poor and the orphans.

The one thing that is famously synonymous with Aidilfitri is the culture of Duit Raya. The practice of giving Duit Raya to children to express gratitude and hope the kids will have fun during this festive is a very positive desire and is a recommended act.

However, the cultural implications of giving Duit Raya is quite worrying because it can cause a child to not understand the real intention of Duit Raya that is Charity if we fail to educate to them the wisdom behind this culture. For some parents, if their child is not given Duit Raya, it is as if Eid is incomplete. Even some children are brave enough to complain when they did not receive the Duit Raya or if the amount is too little.

What's more, the culture of giving Duit Raya today, the priority is no longer given to the poor, the needy or orphans as recommended.

For the older generation, such a culture should be reassessed so that we are able to stop producing materialistic generation and produce instead generation who understand the meaning, the wisdom and the aspirations of the feast itself. So let us together educate the new generation on the culture of Duit Raya. Better now then never. May Allah ease everything for us. Ameen.
