Is it legal to use waterproof makeup?
Does it prevent the entry of water into the limbs that must be washed when
performing ablution?
In principle, waterproof make-up that uses raw materials from pork and other unlawful materials is forbidden to use, on the contrary if using halal raw materials it is halal to use, it's just that its use prevents the entry of ablution water into the skin or not.
As it is known that wetting the body which is a member of ablution during ablution, is obligatory. When the Prophet
saw a prayer with the condition that there were parts of the ablution part that were not wet with water, the Prophet ordered the person to repeat his ablution and prayer.
Just a little part of the ablution is not exposed to the water of ablution, it can cancel the entire washing of ablution, so you have to repeat the ablution completely. This shows the importance of making sure all members of the ablution are wet with ablution
water.
What about Waterproof Makeup?
Does it block the entry of water into the skin?
In general, there are two types of women's makeup:
First, it has a thickness and forms a layer. This type of make-up must be removed before performing ablution. Because it prevents the water from reaching the
ablution members. If it is not removed, then ablution is invalid, and is subject to the threat of the hadith above. Examples such as lipstick, face powder, etc. thick.
Second, it has no thickness and does not form a layer. This type of makeup does not have to be removed. Because it does not contain a layer or thickness, which prevents the wetness of the ablution water. For example, makeup that is only in the form of color, such as eyeshadow, nail
dye, etc.
If the make-up has a physical (forming a layer) that prevents water from reaching the ablution part, it must be removed. If it doesn't have physicality, so it's only limited to color, it doesn't have thickness, then it doesn't have to be removed. However, if the make-up has physical properties, so that it can block the wetness of the ablution water, then this type of make-up must be removed. Like make-up on the face or arms, if it
contains waxy substances (forming a layer), it must be removed. As for if it's only limited to color, it doesn't have physicality and thickness, it doesn't have to be removed.
Of the two types of makeup above, which one belongs to waterproof makeup?
From the name, we can catch that one type of make-up that is now in great demand is classified as the first type.
Waterproof means waterproof. It clearly shows it has thickness and layers. So it must be removed when going for ablution.
Thus, this includes Matte Lipstick that many of us are unaware and forgotten of the importance of removing it too.
Wallahualam.
