Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from knowingly associating partners with You in any way, and I seek Your forgiveness for that which I do not know. Ameen.

Allah s.w.t. ordered the human race to be devoted to both parents as stated in the verse of al-Quran surah al-Nisa' verse 36 which means: "And you should worship God and do not associate anything with Him; and you should do good to both parents and relatives and orphans and the poor and the near neighbors and the far neighbors and peers and the stranded travelers and also the slaves you have. Verily, Allah does not like those who - people who are arrogant and proud of themselves."

The sacrifices made and the hardships endured starting from pregnancy, giving birth to raising children as Allah s.w.t. says in Surah Luqman verse 14 which means: "And We make it obligatory for man to do good to both his parents; his mother bore him by bearing weakness after weakness (from the beginning of pregnancy to the end of her preparation) and the period of weaning is within two years; (thus) be grateful to Me and to your parents; and (remember), to Me is the place of return (to receive a reward)."

Indeed, there is nothing more soothing and happy than hearing the children themselves mention the goodness of their father and mother after their absence. It is part of the proof that the mother and father have fulfilled their responsibilities perfectly in educating the children to be pious children.

There is nothing more meaningful than seeing the willingness of the children to take care of the bodies of both parents themselves, lead the funeral prayers and ask for forgiveness for them.

Children can still be devoted to their parents who have passed away by executing their wills, strengthening friendships with their friends, making endowments in their name, giving charity and settling their debts and trying to be pious children by practicing the true Islamic way of life.

The encouragement is expressed in a hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah, the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. said which means: "If a person (Islam) dies, then all his deeds are cut off except for three things, namely continuous charity, knowledge that can benefit (himself or others) to others) and a pious son who does good deeds and always prays for him." (Muslim)
