Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from knowingly associating partners with You in any way, and I seek Your forgiveness for that which I do not know. Ameen.
What are the virtues of the month of
Shawwal?
1). A Good Month to Get Married
The virtue of the month of Shawwal is good for carrying out marriages.
Rasulullah s.a.w.'s wife, Aisyah r.a., was married by Rasulullah s.a.w. in the month of Shawwal. This is as explained in the Muslim hadith, Aisyah r.a. said:
"Rasulullah s.a.w.
married me during the month of Shawwal and had the first night with me in the month of Shawwal. Where is his wife who gets more attention than me?” (Narrated by Muslim, An-Nasa'i).
2). Fitrah Month
The virtue of the month of Shawwal is the return of Muslims to their Fitrah after a full month of fasting in Ramadan. With a note, fasting is done with full faith and
sincerity.
This is in accordance with the hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah, that the Prophet s.a.w. said:
"Whoever observes the fasting of Ramadan with faith and sincerity, then his past sins will be forgiven." (Al-Bukhari: 37 and Muslim: 1266, Sahih Hadith).
3). Fasting 6 days in the month of Shawwal is equivalent to fasting a
year
Who would have thought, fasting 6 days in the month of Shawwal is equivalent to fasting one year. This practice is a virtue of the month of Shawwal that should not be missed.
"Whoever has fasted Ramadan, then he follows it by fasting for 6 (six) days in the month of Shawwal, then he (gets the reward) as someone who fasted for one year."
4). Gathering Month
Another virtue of the month of Shawwal, Syawal is often called the month of hospitality. During this moment, it is common for a Muslim to do visiting. It is encourage for family, relatives, or closest neighbors to apologize and shake hands with each other.
“It is not lawful for a Muslim not to greet another Muslim brother for more than three
nights. The two meet but turn away. And the best of the two is the one who starts the greeting." (Narrated by Abu Dawud).
5). Month of Happiness
Syawwal is the month of joy. Apart from the Eid al-Fitr celebration which is held on the 1st, the less fortunate will receive zakat fitrah from the Muzaki. Therefore, all Muslims should be happy.
6). Month to Increase Worship
The month of Shawwal is a moment to increase charity worship. Therefore, all Muslims are expected to further improve the quality of worship, even though the month of Ramadan has ended. And that is the virtue of the last month of Shawwal, hopefully it can add to your insight.
