The sacrificial animal should be the best one, old enough, and without any defect. Rasulullah (SAW) says:
“Four types of animals are unlawful to be sacrificed:
- Having defective eyes
- Having illness
- Limping; and
- Skinny with no fats.”
(Bukhari and Muslim)
Another Hadith
reported:
“Do not slaughter but a Musinnah (Livestock who already grew adult
teeth).
If it is too hard for you (to get it), then slaughter a Jadza’ah (one year of age or more) from among the sheep.”
(HR Muslim).
For many years that we did Qurban ( since 2013 ), we never knew that we have local animals that can be used for Qurban until 2 years ago, during the COVID period.
Even before COVID we only hear about sheep being flown from Australia and the Qurban was done at the Mosques.
