Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from knowingly associating partners with You in any way, and I seek Your forgiveness for that which I do not know. Ameen.
Rain According to Islam: Blessing or
Calamity?
Allah created everything with meaning and purpose, including natural phenomena. Of all the natural phenomena created, some are in the form of favors from Allah, some are punishment for humans, such as for example rain.
Rain is not just the fall of water to the face of the earth, but rain is also a blessing that Allah sends down to the face of the earth.
In the Qur'an there are many explanations about rain, such as in the Al-Qur'an surah Al-Baqarah verse 22 which means: "He made the earth as an expanse for you and the sky as a roof, and He sends down water (rain) from the sky, then He produces with the rain all fruits as fortune for you; for that reason, you shouldn't make partners with God, even though you know."
The verse
above explains, behind the events of the rain there is such a great blessing, there are lots of sources of sustenance that Allah gives such as fruits and other sources of life. As for fruits and other sources of life they originate from water. Water is a basic human need. So from that, the existence of rain was indeed created by Allah so that we can live well.
Apart from being a
source of sustenance, favors, and as a purifier or thaharah, rainwater can also become a disaster or a warning from Allah. As explained in the letter Ar-Rum verse 41 which means: "There has been visible damage on land and at sea caused by the actions of hands humans, so that God will feel for them a part of (the consequences of) their actions, so that they return (to the right path)."
The meaning of the verse above is that events that occur
on earth can make people lose money. This is due to the act of the human hand itself (doing damage). Rain can be a disaster such as the coming of floods and landslides, this is because humans themselves do not apply sunatullah by preserving nature. The result is a disaster that ultimately harms the human being himself.
Rain, apart from being a disaster, is also a warning. Allah has explained in the Qur'an that rain is a warning, namely in the
letter As-Syu'ara verse 173 which means: And We showered them with rain (stones), so bad was the rain that befell those who had been warned That".
The event of the rain stones is a warning from Allah for humans who deny and commit tyranny. Allah sent down this event so that those who disbelieve and are tyrannical to Allah will immediately repent and ask God for
forgiveness.
Let us care for each other's preservation of nature so as not to invite things to happen that we don't want, and let us obey all of God's commands together.
