For every cent means saving a precious life
The wealth and luxury of the world is one of the blessings of Allah which is bestowed upon His servants. The pleasure of living by having a lot of wealth is not something wrong and contradicts religion. History has recorded the story of how the wealth owned by Uthman bin Affan r.a., a corporate figure who has spent a lot of his wealth in the path of Allah s.w.t. His wealth made him buy a water well that originally belonged to a Jew, and make the
well a waqf for Muslims.
Indeed, Islam is not a religion that is hostile to wealth. In fact, Islam strongly encourages its people to work hard to find sustenance and livelihood. This is as the word of Allah s.w.t. in surah al-Jumaah verse 10 which means:
"When the prayer has been performed, then spread yourselves on the earth; seek God's grace and remember God a lot so that you will be
lucky"
Wealth is not something that Allah hates or is hostile to, on the contrary what is being fought against is extreme attitudes, greed and so on. In fact, wealth is the basis of human life. Without this foundation, people's lives will become backward, fall into poverty, live destitute and work only to collect the sympathy of other people. Allah s.w.t. has recognized property as a foundation in the development of human
life.
In addition, Islam also teaches its people to find wealth as an effort to earn a living for the family. Trying to find wealth in a good way is more noble and meaningful than the work of begging for the sympathy of other people. Even with the work of just collecting firewood and selling it to get a profit, that is better than living on the streets just begging.
The notion that Allah mocks
life in the world by Allah stating that this world is a place full of deception, the world is just a place to play jokes and so on, does not mean that Allah forbids His servants to gain wealth and pleasure in life in the world. But instead Allah s.w.t. explaining to us the limits and limitations of life in this world is only temporary and not a permanent place forever.
Therefore, seek wealth according to the nature of this impermanent
world. Try to become rich because with that wealth too, we will be able to benefit the people again.
