UPHOLDING THE RITE OF SACRIFICE IN ONE'S HOMELAND
written by Zakaria

In every Muslim community, the symbols of Islam stand upright as a representation of the existence of Islam and the devotion of Muslims to their Creator. However, one of the religious practices where the symbols of Islam face the risk of fading is the act of sacrifice (Qurban).
There was a time when Qurban was not carried out here but in other countries. This is heartbreaking, especially when we don't have strong reasons to justify it.
Allah's commandment states, "Whoever honors the symbols of Allah,
indeed, it is from the piety of hearts" (Quran, Surah Al-Hajj, Verse 32).
This has motivated Aaliyah's Pte Ltd to organize local qurban rituals, despite facing various challenges.
This year, for the third consecutive year, Aaliyah's Pte Ltd will offer local live qurban services, where the slaughtering will take place at the Petempatan Melayu Sembawang Mosque and Al-Firdaus Mosque.
Aaliyah's Pte Ltd is a trading company experienced in the trade of goats and sheep, covering Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and
Australia.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Aaliyah's conducted local qurban operations at Hay Dairies Farm in 2021 and at the Arab Association, Al Wehdah, in 2022. Commenting on the offering of local qurban services, the founder of Aaliyah's Pte Ltd, Mr. Rafee Eunos, said:
"Our main objective is to revive the practice of qurban in our own homeland, where participants (sohibul qurban) can choose, reserve, care for, feed, and ultimately witness the slaughtering process themselves."
This brings a
meaningful understanding of the act of sacrifice, which is letting go of something dear to us and then sharing it with those in need.
For those interested, there are two package options: the Singapore Hay Dairies Farm goat package and the imported Australian sheep package.
The Hay Dairies Farm goat package consists of premium Nubian-American goats weighing between 65 and 90 kilograms. These goats are bred at the Hay Dairies Farm in Lim Chu Kang. Only 180 goats are available for the qurban.
The second package is the
sheep package, weighing between 40 and 42 kilograms, from Australia. A total of 1,200 sheep are provided for this year's qurban.
This local qurban service is a collaborative effort between Aaliyah's Pte Ltd, and their partners KhidmahSG Pte Ltd ( which runs
Qurban.SG - Celebrating Piety & Sacrifice ), and Alta Food and
Agriculture Pte Ltd.
