Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from knowingly associating partners with You in any way, and I seek Your
forgiveness for that which I do not know. Ameen.
Islam commands a Muslim to work and does not tell its adherents to be lazy. There are many verses and hadiths that encourage and tell their servants to work hard and earnestly, both to earn a living for themselves, family, society or other creatures.
As we usher in the new year where most of us come back to office and resume our work with
renewed enthusiasm, it is important for us to apply ethics or manners in working according to Islamic Sharia. There are at least five work ethics in Islam, namely sincerity, honesty, trust, brotherhood and justice.
1. Sincerity (Ikhlas)
Work with sincerity because of Allah s.w.t. Rasulullah s.a.w. said: "Indeed the deed depends on the intention, and indeed the
person depends on what he intends" (HR. Bukhari and Muslim).
In carrying out every job and business it is necessary to be sincere and earnest. That attitude will create effectiveness and efficiency in improving the results of the work.
2. Be honest (Sidiq)
"There is no behavior that the
Prophet s.a.w disliked the most like a lie" (HR. Ahmad bin Hambal)
Honesty is the basis of ethical values in Islam. In organizations and business activities, a person needs to be honest and not cheat or swear falsely.
3. Trust (Amanah)
"Entrust your religion, your trust and all the results of
your work to Allah" (HR. At-Tirmizi)
Trust is the principle of accountability to Allah s.w.t. in performing work, there should be trust in the country, organization, society and individual.
4. Brotherhood (Ukhwah)
"In terms of mutual brotherhood, mutual love, Muslims are like one body." (HR.
Al-Bukhari).
Intertwined good deeds will be able to create a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere and keep away from envy, malice, incitement and treachery.
5. Justice (Adil)
"When Allah wills welfare for a people, then their affairs are entrusted to wise people and their wealth is handed over to
generous people" (HR. Abu Daud).
The meaning of justice is that everyone should be treated appropriately (put something in its place), without discrimination.
Wallahua'lam.
