Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from knowingly associating partners with You in any way, and I seek Your
forgiveness for that which I do not know. Ameen.
Ego is a mazmumah trait that must be avoided so that it does not exist in everyone. Ego means being proud of yourself, feeling that you have a great advantage that you forget God.
Unknowingly, the ego in a person can consume himself because he always feels that he is right and cannot accept any criticism.
In the Qur'an it is also mentioned that Allah does not like arrogant people to be on this earth. Allah's Word Surah Luqman verse 18 which means:
"And do not turn your face (because of looking down) on people, and do not walk on the earth with a proud attitude; Indeed, God does not like every person who is arrogant, arrogant, and proud of themselves."
The clearest example of arrogance and ego in the devil who refused to bow down to Prophet Adam because the devil felt he was more noble than Prophet Adam.
Iblis is proud because he was created from fire while Prophet Adam was created from earth. This invites the wrath of God on the devil. Finally, the devil was expelled from heaven.
In addition, when there is a sense of ego in a person, he cannot see others as better than himself so that there is a feeling of being challenged with others.
They always try to outdo others until they don't realize it sometimes, trying to find other people's weaknesses to show a little badness in others.
As a result, this ego is also the cause of diseases of the heart such as revenge, anger, envy and others. So this ego or arrogance is despised and disliked by God. The Prophet's words:
"He who has in his heart as much pride as a mustard seed will not enter heaven." [HR Ibnu Majah 4173]
Thus, there are
ways for us to lower our existing ego.
1. Be a good listener
2. Always be humble about the advantages we have
3. Stop comparing
4. Smart in controlling emotions
Therefore, try to improve ourselves in a better direction while we are still in this
glorious month which is the month of Ramadan.
Wallahu'alam.
