Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from knowingly associating partners with You in any way, and I seek Your
forgiveness for that which I do not know. Ameen.
Isra Miraj is one of the extraordinary miracles of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. In one night, the Prophet traveled from the Haram Mosque in Mecca to the Aqsa Mosque, to Sidratul Muntaha in the seventh heaven.
This event not only proves the apostleship of Prophet Muhammad, but also illustrates the unlimited power of Allah s.w.t. But do you know
what is reason behind Isra Miraj?
Isra Miraj cannot be separated from amul huzni, which is the year of sorrow in which the Prophet's perseverance was tested. Prophet Muhammad had to allow his beloved wife Khadijah r.a. to face the Creator. Although Khadijah was a faithful woman who accompanied him when many people still mocked her.
The Prophet grieved even more when his uncle, Abu Talib
died. He is the one who has provided protection to the Prophet. Abu Talib is known to be very harsh and decisive in defending his nephew so that the opponents of the Prophet Muhammad in Mecca became frightened. After the death of these two very special people, the Quraysh infidels became more and more free to intimidate the Messenger of Allah.
To comfort Prophet Muhammad, Allah s.w.t. honored his messenger with a spiritual journey to
the seventh heaven to meet Him. This is what later became known as the Isra Miraj event.
Isra means the journey made by the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. at night from Mecca al-Mukarramah to Baitul Maqdis in Palestine.
While miraj means the raising of the Prophet s.a.w. to Sidratul Muntaha.
Isra Miraj begins when Jibril brings Buroq for Prophet Muhammad. Buroq
is a kind of white animal that can dart as fast as lightning.
The Prophet then drove him from Masjidil Haram to Baitul Maqdis. During the journey, Jibril invited the Prophet to stop at several places that have historical value.
The land of Palestine itself is a historic location, even long before Prophet Muhammad was sent as a Messenger. Palestine is the land of the prophets. So by going on
the journey of Isra, the Prophet carried out the legacy of the preaching struggle of the previous prophets.
After praying two rak'ahs in Masjidil Aqsa, the Prophet continued his journey to miraj, where he met past Prophets at every gate of heaven. Prophet Muhammad met Prophet Adam, Prophet Jesus, Prophet Yahya, Prophet Yusuf, Prophet Idris, Prophet Harun, Prophet Moses, and Prophet Ibrahim.
In sidratul muntaha, Allah s.w.t. gave an order that required Muslims to pray 50 times a day. Thinking about the condition of his people, the Prophet then negotiated until the five-time prayer order was established.
Wallahu'alam.
