In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from knowingly associating partners with You in any way, and I seek Your forgiveness for that which I do not know.
Ameen.
Bilal was the first muezzin appointed by Rasulullah s.a.w. to recite the call to prayer in his time.
The owner of the full name Bilal bin Rabah drew his own
history. His name is always mentioned until now.
The melodiousness and softness of his voice when calling all Muslims to pray is recorded in history. In fact, the torture he received when he first converted to Islam was also quoted in the historiography.
Indeed, the story of Bilal r.a. the once oppressed touches the
heart of anyone who reads it. However, what he went through did not undermine his faith in Allah s.w.t.
His father, Rabah, is of Arab descent, while his mother, Hamamah, is of Abyssinian descent. However, Bilal became an orphan from an early age.
After he converted to Islam and was known by his master, Bilal was tortured so
cruelly that the event was recorded in history.
From Abu Hurairah r.a. that Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. said: "O Bilal, tell me the most important practice you have done since embracing Islam? In fact, I have heard the movement of your feet by my side in heaven."
Then Bilal replied: "There is no main practice that I practice except
that I will perform ablution at night or during the day but I will pray with that ablution, in addition to the prayers that are obligatory on me." (Narrated by al-Bukhari)
IBRAH from the story of Bilal bin Rabah r.a.
1. Be disciplined
One of the
reasons why Bilal bin Rabah was appointed as a muezzin was because he was very careful about his five times prayer time. To keep the prayer schedule with the call to prayer, it requires a person who is very precise and always ready to call the call to prayer.
2. Appreciate the verses of the call to prayer
Bilal was able to do so
because of his faith. History tells how the torture that happened to him did not become an excuse for Bilal to return to his old religion. In fact, he remained strong despite being tortured.
3. Have a melodious and loud voice.
Due to the voice package that Bilal has, the Prophet s.a.w. without hesitation choose him to
be a muezzin. This is because a loud and clear voice can provide understanding to the person listening.
4. Courage.
The brave attitude displayed by Bilal when receiving torture shows his tenacity to bear any risk and respond to it without wavering with the religion of God.
Wallahu'alam.
