Ibadah is
not just praying, fasting, zakat, hajj and so on. If only prayer is considered worship, it is not more than half an hour of our 24-hour-day. While the most time spent every day is in doing work.
In order to ensure that all work becomes worship, there are three conditions that must be met, namely,
1. The intention of working is only because of Allah s.w.t. It is appropriate for every employee to renew his intention every day at the beginning of work by devoting himself to working for Allah s.w.t. Sincerity in this work is translated by carrying out the trust and responsibility of the tasks given in the best way, because we believe that Allah s.w.t. always sees all our actions.
2. The work done must be in accordance with Shariah, i.e. not in conflict with any Shariah law. Mandatory to ensure that the work done is carried out with full integrity and trustworthiness.
3. The goal of a job is for good, such as earning a living for the family, meeting the
continuity of life and the like. It has become normal, there are workers who are strong in their worship but when doing work, there are behaviors that can invalidate the value of worship in their work such as immorality, negligence in punctuality, not completing responsibilities and even some are involved in malpractices and so on.
In this
situation, the nature of trust and responsibility needs to be applied and practiced by every individual who works. This is to ensure that every job done meets the goals and objectives that have been set. This is the true quality of a Muslim worker that needs to be inculcated in the individual.
While failure to fulfill trust and
responsibility is a clear betrayal of the goal of a job, as warned by Allah SWT: "O people of faith! Do not betray (the trust of) Allah and His Messenger and (do not) you betray your trust, while you know (the wrong)" (surah al-Anfal: 27).
The words of Allah SWT: "And say (O Muhammad): Do good deeds (of all that is commanded), then Allah and
His Messenger and the believers will see what you do and you will be returned to (Allah) the Knower of matters -the unseen and the manifest, then He explains to you what you have done" (Surah al-Taubah: 105).
