Assalamualaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,
May Allah Almighty shower His Divine Blessings, Mercy, Protection, and Favour upon you and your family, Insha'Allah.
The past few days has been a wet day for most of us. Heavy rain can be observed in many parts of Singapore. Rain is a blessing from
Allah not only for the Muslims but also for all of Allah's creation.
In Islam, rain is referred to as a blessing sent down by Allah. However, rain can also turn into a disaster if it falls with high intensity in a short time, causing floods or landslides.
Fear of this makes some people complain when the rainy season begins. In Islam, this is something that is forbidden. Islam teaches that rainwater is a blessing and sustenance given by Allah to His servants.
With rain, the condition of the earth which was originally barren and arid becomes
fertile. With rain, the needs of living things for water can be met. Therefore, it is only right for humans to be grateful when rain falls.
Allah confirms this in the Qur'an:
“And it is He who sends down rain after they have despaired and
spreads His mercy. And He is the All-Protector, the All-Praiseworthy." (QS. Asy-Shura: 28)
Rainwater is sent down by Allah in a clean state. Not only clean, the rainwater that falls also brings many blessings for humans.
Therefore, Muslims are also advised to recite prayers when it rains.
The Messenger of Allah said:
"Two prayers that will not be rejected are prayers when the call to prayer is given and prayers when it rains." (HR.
Sahl bin Sad)
The word of Allah which reads:
"It is He who sends down rainwater from the sky for you, some of it becomes a drink and some of it (fertilizes) the plants, on which you graze your livestock." (QS. An-Nahl: 10)
The benefits of rain can be for agricultural land, power plants, and industries that have an impact on human life. For certain communities who have difficulty finding water sources, rain is good news.
Muslims can
also read prayers when it rains. This prayer aims to ask that the rain that falls be a blessing and beneficial for every creature.
It means: "O Allah, send down rain that is beneficial for living things." (HR. Bukhari Muslim).
Let's together learn to be grateful and appreciative of each of Allah's blessing that is bestowed upon us.
