Understanding Qurban Grouping & Niyyah – What You Need to Know
Assalamu’alaikum,
As the blessed days of Qurban approach, many are preparing to fulfill this beautiful Sunnah. But one question we often receive is:
"Can I share one sheep with my family or
friends for Qurban?"
Here’s what you need to know:
✅ One sheep = One person’s Qurban
According to authentic Hadith, a sheep or goat can only fulfill the Qurban obligation of one
individual. The Prophet ﷺ used to sacrifice a sheep for himself and his family, intending the reward to be shared, but the act of Qurban was counted for one person.
You can still intend the reward (pahala) to include your family — but if every adult in your household wants to
fulfill the Sunnah Muakkadah, each should perform their own Qurban if they can afford it.
🛑 Sharing one sheep between multiple people to fulfill their Qurban? That’s not valid.
✅ Cows and camels, however, can be shared — up to seven
people per animal, with each receiving full reward for Qurban.
TIP: When submitting your Qurban order, list only one name per sheep, and feel free to mention it’s for the reward of your family.
Let’s strive
to fulfill this act of worship correctly — and reap the full blessings of Qurban this year, inshaAllah.
May Allah accept your sacrifice and intentions. Ameen.
