Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh, We often remember Isra Mi‘raj as a miracle of ascent. A journey beyond space. A night of honour. But we rarely sit with the pain that came before it. Isra Mi‘raj did not arrive when life was stable. It came when the Prophet ﷺ was carrying more grief than words could hold. The tenth year of Prophethood is remembered as ‘Aam al-Huzn. The Year
of Sorrow. Within a short time, Rasulullah ﷺ lost Khadijah رضي الله عنها. The first to believe. The one who made home feel safe when the world turned hostile. Her wealth was spent on the da‘wah until there was nothing left. Her presence was a shelter. And then, she was gone. Not long after, Abu Talib passed away. The beloved uncle and the shield fell. With him gone, the Prophet ﷺ stood exposed in his own birthplace. Insults became threats that the Prophet had to face every day, far more than the support he received. And it became violent; no one could ever have imagined. Before that, there had been years of boycott. Families trapped in a narrow valley. Food cut off. The cries of hungry children echo through the nights of Makkah. Hardship that left marks not only on bodies, but on hearts. When Makkah became unbearable, the Prophet walked to Ta’if. Ta’if was not nearby. It was a journey longer than walking from Singapore to Malaysia. And he walked it not in hope of comfort, but because every other door had closed. Hoping for protection, hoping for the message could breathe. Instead, stones met him. The leaders of Ta’if sent their children and slaves to
drive him out. For miles, stones rained down. His body and heart wound. Blood ran down to his sandals. And once again, every human door closed. Under a grapevine exhausted and broken, he raised his hands and said: “O Allah, to You I complain of my weakness and my humiliation before people. If You are not angry with me, then I do not care.” That was the moment. When the mission looked finished. No wealth. No protection. No safe place. When nothing remained except Allah. And it was then
that Allah opened the heavens. Isra Mikraj was not a spectacle. It was Tasliyah. Divine comfort for a heart that had carried too much. And Allah sent him back
with one gift for his ummah: Solat. So when hearts break, We are not taught to escape upward. We are taught to bow downward. Five times a day, Allah invites the
broken to rise. If you are struggling right now, this night reminds us: Allah does not abandon His servants at their lowest. Sometimes, the greatest
elevation comes right after the deepest pain. Wallahu a’lam. Sources: – Seerah of Ibn Ishaq (as preserved by Ibn Hisham) – Al-Bidayah wa
