Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,
Most of us hear “Zulhijjah” and think of one thing: Hari Raya Haji.
Maybe Qurban. Maybe a few extra prayers.
Maybe a general sense that “these are good days.”
But the Prophet ﷺ gave these days a weight that is often overlooked.
“There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.”
(Bukhari)
When the companions asked, even about jihad, he ﷺ replied:
“Not even jihad, except a man who goes out with his life and wealth and returns
with neither.” (Bukhari)
That comparison is not meant to reduce jihad.
It is meant to elevate your awareness of time.
These are not ordinary
days.
They are days where small actions carry unusual weight.
What makes these 10 days different?
It is not that worship changes. It is that opportunity multiplies.
These days,
multiple major acts of worship come together:
- prayer
- fasting
- dhikr
- charity
- Qurban
- Hajj (for those invited)
Most of the year, worship is spread out.
Here, Allah gathers it in one short window.
Most of us already know these days are special. The issue is not knowledge, it’s attention.
We enter these days carrying normal life with us:
work that doesn’t pause,
family needs that keep coming,
bills, messages,
notifications, everything moving at once.
So even when we intend good, we often operate on autopilot.
And the days pass without presence.
Five small choices that change everything:
- Fast the Day of Arafah (9th of Dhu al-Hijjah).
The Prophet ﷺ said it expiates two years of sins. If you do nothing else, do this. - Fill the gaps with dhikr.
Subhanallah. Alhamdulillah. Allahu Akbar. In between work, travel, and waiting, nothing is wasted. - Give sadaqah.
Small or large,
it reveals attachment. And releasing it these days matters. - Slow down in salah.
Not longer. Just more present. Less rushing, more awareness before Allah. - Hold one consistent act.
Not everything. One thing you can continue beyond Eid—that’s where change begins.
Most people pass through this time without realising its weight.
But Allah has honoured four sacred months (Quran 9:36), where good deeds carry greater value and sins carry greater seriousness.
It is the same life, but time itself is
treated with greater weight before Allah.
So what if you live these 10 days differently?
You may not feel an immediate transformation.
But slowly, worship becomes less
delayed. Repentance becomes more immediate. Choices become more conscious.
And quietly, without you always noticing, your heart becomes less distracted.
That is what barakah often looks like.
May Allah allow us to reach these days with sincerity,
fill them with accepted deeds,
and make them a turning point in our relationship with Him.
Wallahu a’lam.
