Sacrifice in Islam means the willingness to give up interests, time, energy, or wealth in order to seek the pleasure of Allah s.w.t. It includes tests of obedience, manifestations of gratitude, and efforts to build a harmonious society.
Being in a position where our sacrifices are not appreciated is very painful and emotionally draining. Remember that the main validation should come from
yourself, not from others.
Why does the sacrifice feel in vain?
Difference in expectations:
You may expect the sacrifice to be reciprocated with similar treatment, while they take it for granted.
Lack of Empathy:
Unappreciative people often focus too much on themselves.
Unclear Limits:
Too often giving everything can make your effort
considered an obligation, no longer an act of sincerity.
Correct Steps to Face it:
Appreciate Yourself:
Acknowledge the efforts you have made. Realize that your self-worth is not determined by other people's confessions.
Talk Openly:
Express your feelings calmly without blaming. Honest communication can change their perspective.
Set
Boundaries:
Learn to say "no". Reduce sacrifices for people who only benefit from your goodness.
Focus on Your Own Happiness:
Divert your energy to things or people who truly appreciate and support you.
Appreciating each other's sacrifices is the key to harmony. May we become one of those who are able to appreciate sacrifices.
Wallahu'alam.
