Assalamu'alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,
The alarm was set.
The intention was real.
You meant to wake up.
But when your eyes finally opened, the room was brighter than it should have been. And before you even checked the time, you already knew.
Fajr had passed.
For many of us, what comes next is predictable.
Disappointment. Guilt. Frustration. And sometimes, a quiet thought we would never say out loud:
"I've already messed
up the day."
But that is not how Allah teaches us to think. And it is not how the Prophet ﷺ responded.
One morning, while travelling, the
Prophet ﷺ and his companions overslept and missed Fajr.
Imagine that. The best generation to walk this earth. The people who loved prayer more than we can imagine. And yet, they woke up after sunrise.
What happened next is the lesson.
The Prophet ﷺ did not panic. He did not speak as though everything was ruined. He did not tell them they had missed their chance.
He made wudhu. And he prayed. Then he taught:
"Whoever sleeps through a prayer or forgets it, let him pray it when he remembers. There is no expiation except that." Sahih Bukhari
The prayer was missed.
It was not cancelled.
The door was not closed.
Perhaps this is something we need to remember far beyond Fajr.
We think our mistakes define the day. Allah looks at what we do after the mistake.
We think failure is the end of the story. Allah gives us the next page.
So what do you do now?
If you wake up before
sunrise, pray.
If you wake up after sunrise, pray.
If you wake up feeling guilty, pray.
If you wake up disappointed in yourself, pray.
The prayer was missed. The door
is still open.
Whenever you wake up, pray as soon as you can. He is waiting for your return.
And do not let Shaytan convince you there is no point
anymore.
Because that is his second victory.
The first victory is making you miss the prayer. The second is convincing you not to return. And
that second one is far more dangerous.
A missed Fajr is a mistake.
Walking away from Allah because of it is a tragedy.
So make wudhu. Stand up. Pray.
Because Allah is still inviting you back.
The story of a missed Fajr is not
written when you wake up.
It is written in what you do next.
May Allah make us people who return quickly, repent sincerely, and never
mistake His mercy for a closed door.
Ameen. Wallahu a'lam.
