Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh, There is only one woman who holds the title of Mother of the Poor, even before she knew the teachings of Islam. She is Zainab bint Khuzaimah. Long before she became one of the Mothers of the Believers, long before she married the Prophet ﷺ, the people of Makkah already knew her for something simple. If you were hungry, you went to her. She was not known for wealth. She was not known for influence. She was known because she fed people. It is reported that she would prepare extra food in her home, just in case someone in need came to her door. She did
not wait until she had a surplus. She built her life around noticing need. And here is where her story meets ours. Many of us today are trying to be responsible. We budget carefully. We think about school fees, aging parents, and plans. We tell ourselves that once things feel more stable, we will give more consistently. There is a quiet fear behind that thinking. What if I give it and later need it for my own family? What if I am not careful enough? What if there is not enough for us? Islam honours planning. It honours providing. A mother worrying about her children’s future is not a lack of faith. It
is love. But Zainab’s life gently widens our understanding of what success meant to the women of Jannah. She lived in an uncertain time. Later, she became a widow after her
husband was martyred at Uhud. Stability was not guaranteed for her either. The Prophet ﷺ married her, recognising her dignity and her place in the community. Yet she was with him for less than a year before she returned to Allah at only 30 years old. Thirty years. Some of us are still waiting for the “right time” to become generous, to become
impactful, to become the person we hope our children remember. Zainab did not have decades to accumulate. She start giving even it is small, even she doesn’t have security. That is why she was called Umm al-Masakin. Not Mother of the Wealthy. Not Mother of Influence. Mother of the Poor. Allah says: “You will never attain righteousness until you spend from that which you love.” (Quran 3:92) While the world constantly conditions you to be someone who has everything, Zainab teaches you to give everything. Not because she was wealthy. But because she believed that what leaves your hand for
Allah never truly leaves you. What we give is returned multiplied, at the right time. Not by people. By the One who possesses everything. Wealth is not what sits in your
account. It is what is recorded in your scale. Her story asks: What is my home known for in the sight of Allah? What kind of strength am I chasing? Are we teaching our children to protect wealth, or to trust the One who gave it? May Allah make our homes places of relief. May He make us generous before we feel ready. May He raise daughters in our care who measure success not by what they own, but by whom they uplift.

Assalamualaikum wr wb,
As we prepare for Ramadan, many mosques are stepping up their fundraising efforts to support iftar,
programmes, and the growing needs of the community. At ISGN Ventures, we’ve been asking ourselves how technology can better support our mosques during this busy and meaningful period. One small step we’ve taken is working with Masjid Sallim Mattar to implement a real-time Digital Donation Display System that makes giving simpler and more transparent for their jemaah.
With this system, donations made through the online link or QR code are reflected instantly on the mosque’s screens, allowing the community to see live progress together. The displays also show real-time prayer schedules and countdowns to iqamah. Instead of static
slides, the platform runs continuously in the background, ensuring information is always accurate and automatically updated.
We hope solutions like these can help mosques focus less on manual processes and more on serving people. By enabling smoother donation management and clearer communication, we aim to support meaningful initiatives on the ground, including programmes such as CERAH,
which provides structured spiritual development and skills-based training for the community. InshaAllah, this is just one of many ways we can continue empowering our mosques through technology.

Since 2007, we have listed Islamic activities on our platform
for free, serving as a bridge between organizers and the Muslim community. Over the years, thousands of events — from classes and talks to conferences and community gatherings — have been shared through IslamicEvents.sg, connecting seekers of knowledge with opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute. Our mission has always been simple: to make Islamic knowledge accessible to all. Despite the challenges and changes through the years, we remain committed to supporting organizers, mosques, and educators who strive to uplift our ummah. As we continue this
journey, we thank every partner, volunteer, and supporter who has walked with us. May Allah SWT reward all your efforts and allow us to keep serving the community for many more years to come. |
