Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,
There is a quiet heaviness that sometimes arrives in Ramadan.
Not the kind that comes from hunger.
The kind that comes from reflection.
The year behind you. The prayers that were delayed. The
mistakes
repeated. The private compromises only Allah knows.
And a question lingers:
How do I continue Ramadan like this?
Perhaps the answer is not to carry the weight through the month.
Perhaps it is to lay it down.
Ramadan is not only for those who
feel ready.
It is for those who wish to return.
There is a prayer for moments like this — Salat al-Tawbah, the prayer of repentance. A quiet turning back to Allah, seeking forgiveness, and beginning again, no matter how the journey started.
Because Ramadan is not about perfection.
It is about returning.
Step 1: Wash your heart.
Begin with wudhu slowly. The Prophet ﷺ said that when a believer washes his face, the sins of the eyes fall with the water. When he washes his hands, the sins committed by them fall away. When he washes his feet, the sins they walked toward are washed away. Until he emerges purified.
Step 2: Stand to return.
Pray two simple rak’ahs, like Fajr. Do not worry about long surahs. Do not worry about perfect focus. Worry about sincerity. You are not performing righteousness. You are standing because you want to come back.
Step 3: The golden sujud.
In your final prostration, stay a little longer. Whisper:
Allahumma inni as’aluka husnul khatimah.
O Allah, I ask You for a good ending.
Allahummarzuqni tawbatan nasuha qabla al-mawt.
O Allah, grant me sincere repentance before
death.
Allahumma inni as’alukal Jannah.
O Allah, I ask You for Jannah.
The lowest position of your body becomes the closest place to your Lord.
Step 4: The honest admission.
After salam, sit quietly. Speak plainly.
“Ya Allah, I did this.”
“I am weak.”
“I am ashamed.”
“But I have no one else but You.”
He already knows. He loves when you return.
Step 5: The wiping away.
Let your tongue move with istighfar. Astaghfirullah. Again and again. The Prophet ﷺ sought forgiveness more than seventy times a day, and in another narration, a hundred. Every istighfar polishes what sin tried to stain.
Step 6: The rescue dua.
Seal it with the
words of Yunus عليه السلام in surah Al-Anbiya: 87,
“La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minaz-zalimin.”
There is no god worthy of worship except You, exalted are You. Indeed, I have been one of the wrongdoers.
He said it in darkness layered upon darkness, and Allah answered him. Your guilt is not heavier than that mercy.
Step 7: Walk away lighter.
Do not doubt Allah. The Prophet ﷺ said the one who repents from sin is like the one who never sinned. If the repentance is sincere, if the
sin is left, if the heart truly turns, Allah restores you.
Do not enter Ramadan carrying old burdens.
Enter it returned.
Enter it forgiven.
Enter it lighter than you were yesterday.
Wallahu a‘lam.
“Ya Allah, grant us sincere repentance and allow us to meet Ramadan with hearts that are clean and close to You.”
