SCHOOL AID FUND
Alhamdulillah. We have completed this project last week. Our team had flown there to handover the money and gifts for this project.
Here's a link to some photos and videos that we have taken. we https://www.dropbox.com/sh/kld6ghnwgx9blsh/AACZjoSPO7ObTn4MPlQ1LmPka?dl=0
These are still raw photos and videos. Not edited yet. Please excuse us for the long loading.
When we arrived at Pnom Penh, Cambodia on the 22nd January, a mini van was arranged for us to travel to Koh Kong. It was a 6 hour long grueling drive to the location. By the time, we reached our hotel, it was already almost 9pm ( 10pm Singapore time ). We had our dinner and began preparing for the next day. The team slept about midnight after all the preps.
The next day after Subuh, the team headed out to the Madrasah Umriah Warrabiah. You will be able to see a building from this video from the link given. Look for madrasahEntrance.mp4. Here you will see the student wearing all kinds of uniform. Some of the students actually goes to circular schools in the afternoon, so they wore the same thing. This is more obvious with the girls as they were wearing shorter skirts.
We had a simple breakfast before commencing on the distribution ceremony. You may want view the speech given by our Chief Khadam, Fadzuli and translated by the Mudir, Ustaz Rorset.
From the same link above, look for SpeechPart1.MOV and SpeechPart2.MOV.
Above we took some photos from the top students of the madrasah.
170 students - 110 boys and 60 girls had been handed 3 sets of uniform, 2 pairs of shoes, 1 school bag and 1 year supply of school notes each. Also sponsored by one of our team's family, each receive a pencil case and USD 2 for their pocket money.
There were 11 teachers including the principal here. Each receiving USD $30. Did you know that each teacher only earns about USD $100 a month and a factory worker can earn up to USD $250 per month? It may sound ridiculous but thats how it is. Fortunately, this Madrasah have passionate teachers who understand that they have a role to mould a better future by educating the young
Muslim Cambodians.
After the ceremony, the students went back to class. We were then brought to see the villages and also to see the 7th infaq house that is currently being built.
Behind the constructed house, is a small house which houses 3 family. There are about 12 of them living in that house. They were grateful to get the contribution as one of the family now are able to move on to have their own place when its ready.
Kampung Ampat - A village by the sea
Above shows a sea village, 2km away from the Madrasah.
We were brought there to see the living conditions. After seeing this place, you wonder why aren't they cleaning up the thrash and it made us reflect about the governance of the area. It also made us feel lucky that despite our high conservancy fees here in Singapore, the leaders made sure we have a clean environment to live in.
After visiting the village, we head back to the hotel to check out before heading back to the Madrasah for lunch. During the time we were away, the students were asked to put on their new uniform so that we are able to take a school photo together. See below.
On Behalf of Madrasah Umriah Warrabiah and the infaq.sg team, we
thank you for your support and may Allah swt reward those whom have contributed.
Insyallah in time to come, there will be more of this projects.
