This week we will be touching on the 3rd Pillar of Islam and that is fasting. Not much of elaboration is needed when it comes to the connection between Fasting and Giving. People are already educated and accustomed to the culture of Giving especially during the Fasting month of Ramadhan. All forms of Giving are at work, be it locally or oversea. People will start giving out Zakat. People will
start giving out Sedeqah. People will start giving food for Iftar. People will start giving out necessities for Syawal. And the list goes on.
People are also accustomed to Giving their time for Allah s.w.t by doing more Ibadah day and night during the Fasting month of Ramadhan.
Thus, out of the 5 Pillars of Islam, Fasting is the most easiest when it comes to educating people on the concept of Giving.
But what I would like to highlight here is, why do people make Giving looks seasonal? Why is it during the Fasting month of Ramadhan that Giving is the most busiest? Why is it during the Fasting month of Ramadhan that the Muslims appear to be more pious? Yes, I dont deny the fact that extra reward will be rewarded for your good deeds during this particular month. But shouldnt there be any favouritism over
the months? Shouldnt Giving be Istiqomah?
Thus, this is where the concept of Giving has gone wrong. Do not wait for Fasting in the month of Ramadhan to make you Give. But make every Fasting, as a review session to ask yourself "how much have I Given ever since the last Fasting?". From here, you will not only monitor how much you have been Giving but also monitor how many Sunnah Fasting you have been performing ever since the last Wajib Fasting. If
you only ask this question from one Ramdhan to the other Ramadhan, that is a big problem.
But do not worry! We have a solution for you to fix this. Let's get yourself engage with the various Infaq projects that we have to offer to you ALL YEAR ROUND!
