There is none worthy of worship but You. O Allah, i seek refuge in you from disbelief and poverty and I seek refuge in you from the punishment of the grave. There is none worthy of worship but you.

Today, I am going to bring you closer to yet another companion of Prophet s.a.w and that is Umar Al-Khattab r.a. While Abu Bakar As-Siddiq r.a. spent his wealth on freeing believing slaves, it is different for the case of Umar r.a.
While most of us who are working look forward for the paycheck at the end of the month, Umar r.a. refused to receive his salary. What he wished for was for it to be channeled to the poor. Will we be able to do as Umar r.a. did while the bills keep coming in? Nevertheless, Prophet s.a.w said to him,
"Take it, O Umar. Use it for yourself, or you may donate it to others! If there are some wealth coming to you without you asking it, then take it. But if doesn’t come to you, then don’t fulfill your desire of it." (Narrated by Bukhari, no. 6744).
Prophet s.a.w. advised Umar r.a. If he want to donate to the poor, take his salary and hand the money himself to the poor. Do not just utter with wàords but show the action. For reaching out to the poor with your own hand and wealth is much more recommended. Rather than asking other people to do it for you. Because this also reflect the sincerity in you. Although what Umar r.a. was doing,
giving up his salary and asked to be given to the poor was no doubt a noble deed in itself.
If you could not be as willing as Umar Al-Khattab r.a. in giving up your monthly salary, let's at least be consistent in your Amal by engaging with the various Infaq Projects that we have to offer to you ALL YEAR ROUND!
