Zainab Bintu Khuzaimah r.a. was Prophet Muhammad's s.a.w fifith wife. Although she was the wife of a Prophet, little is known about the details on her life before Islam and after it. This is probably due to the short marriage span she had with Prophet s.a.w. Zainab r.a. wed Prophet s.a.w. for 8 months before she was passed away. She was 31 when she passed away. She was the second
wife, after Khadijah r.a., whom passed away during the lifetime of Prophet s.a.w.
Zainab Bintu Khuzaimah r.a. was born in Mecca. Her mother was Hindun Bintu Auf Ibnu Harith. Zainab r.a. was among the first few who converted into Islam.
An amazing fact about Zainab Bintu Khuzaimah r.a. that I wish to highlight is about her deeds of charity and generosity. Her extraordinary virtue was widely known during the time of Jahiliyyah. The spirit of giving and generosity that was in her was always pushing her to help the poor and needy endlessly. She was always kindhearted, her compassion towards others
was unstoppable and her dedication towards philanthropy was extraordinary. This was how Zainab r.a. was even before her conversion to Islam, Subhanallah. For that, Ibn Kathir and Qalastani wrote that, Zainab r.a. earned the tittle of Ummul Masakin, the mother of the poor, even before her conversion to Islam, Masyallah.
Upon her conversion, her generosity intensified. Even after entering the household of Prophet s.a.w., she continued to spend her time helping those around her and doing whatever she could for the unfortunate. For that, Zainab Bintu Khuzaimah r.a. was the only one that Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. did not abolish the title she received during the Jahiliyyah period, Ummul
Masakin. Prophet s.a.w. saw the positive influence and motivation that the title carries for other Muslims to take as lesson.
Having the ambition to earn the title of Ummul Masakin in the eyes of Allah s.w.t. just like Zainab Bintu Khuzaimah r.a.? No worries. Let's engage in our various Infaq Projects that we have to offer to you ALL YEAR ROUND! Who knows you might be highly regarded by people who benefited from the Infaq
Projects that you participated in!
