Characteristic of a Muttaqin
 

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.
 

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. All praises is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds - The Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful, Sovereign of the Day of Recompose. It is You we worship and You we ask for help. Guide us to the straight path - the path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked (Your) anger or of those who are astray. Ameen.

Week by week we have been introducing to you some exemplary figures, during Prophet Muhammad's s.a.w. time, whose Infaq and Sedekah activities were beyond extraordinary and miraculous. We hope in one way or another, it has inspire you to become like them.

 

But what motivated them to act in such a way that to a certain extent they would willingly give up everything for the sake of Allah s.w.t and the religion and left nothing for themselves?

 

Surah AL-BAQARAH, verse 2-3

 

This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah. Who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them.

 

Surah AL-ANFAAL, verse 2-4

 

The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith: and upon their Lord they rely. The ones who establish prayer, and from what We have provided them, they spend. Those are the believers, truly. For them are degrees [of high position] with their Lord and forgiveness and noble provision.

 

Surah AS-SAJDAH verse 15-16

 

Only those believe in Our verses who when they are reminded by them, fall down in prostration and exalt [Allah] with praise of their Lord, and they are not arrogant. They arise from [their] beds; they supplicate their Lord in fear and aspiration, and from what We have provided them, they spend.

 

From the above verses, we can conclude that the act of spending in the name of Allah s.w.t. is  an act that will and can only be done by one with Taqwa. Taqwa is the state of being conscious and cognizant of God, of truth, of the rational reality, piety, fear of God. Thus, Taqwa and fear of Allah s.w.t. have motivated the exemplary figures to be able to act in such a way. Because if they are still unable to spend their wealth for the sake of Allah s.w.t., it means they are still attached to the worldly world, far from going after the Akhirah, the main purpose of man's life and far from earning the title of Al-Muttaqin.

“When a human being dies, all of his deeds are terminated except for three types: an ongoing sadaqah, a knowledge (of Islam) from which others benefit, and a righteous child who makes dua for him.” - Muslim and others

While there are people who struggle with money to attend classes or courses, there are also people who have money but have no idea how to help another. Hence this fund is to match such people to ensure that those who struggle are able to attend such classes.

Secondly, the fees to teachers. Often we had this complains from teachers that they are not paid market rate or their students keep asking for lower fees. Just imagine this, it started out with $30 per month and because of inability to pay, the student request for $20 per month. So imagine if you multiply that to 40 students. From $30 x 40 students = $1200, it reduces to $20 x 40 students = $800 per month. We have seen this happening and eventually the teachers will be less motivated to teach and will move on to other jobs. And sadly such vicious cycles repeats and the costs of living doesn't go down. So yes, the second purpose is to protect the livelihood of the teachers.

Thirdly. In general this can greatly subsidise the fees for various organisers to conduct their courses. Yes we will work with other organisers to help subsidised course fees so that everyone in general can benefit from it.
