We hope you are well and in the best of health and iman. May Allah swt continue to bless your family and your life with his rahmah.
We would like to share this common question asked to us every year. We hope this will clarify this matter before you decide on performing the Qurban.
Can we put more than 1 name for a sheep/goat for Qurban?
There is a difference of opinion between scholars on this matter. One group says Yes and the other group says No. You can look it up. When there is a khilaf usually the debates are quite lengthy. Both have valid evidence to prove their point. So which side do you take?
One of the hadith Narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah:
"I witnessed sacrificing along with the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) at the place of prayer. When he finished his sermon, he descended from his pulpit, and a ram was brought to him. The Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) slaughtered it with his hand, and said: In the name of Allah, Allah, is Most Great. This is from me and from those who did not sacrifice from my community."
Although some scholars have mentioned that this is a weak hadith because it came only from one source or witness hence the khilaf or difference of opinion on this matter.
Applying to current situation. This is only our opinion. Please do not judge us if we are wrong. Because we have to look at the current context and administrative work to be done.
Well firstly if we would have 6 names, the person who performs the Qurban will have to read all the names before the slaughter. Second it is difficult to print 6 Full names ( especially those with long names ) on to the Place Card and Certificates.
So this is our suggestion. Similar to how our Prophet s.a.w had taught us. Let's put it into a collective form.
This is how Prophet Muhammad s.a.w said it,
"This is from me and from those who did not sacrifice from my community."
If we put it into our context, we should also follow the same..
Just put the "head of family's name" and add "& Family"
Example.
"Ahmad Bin Hassan & Family"
This is understandably much simpler and helps to ease up the processes for our Admin and Operational team.
Another solution is to purchase the cheapest Cow option and share it with 7 people. >> In India
