It is the month of the year again where we celebrate our beloved Prophet's birthday by remembering him from all aspects. Be it his biography, his Sunnah, his contributions or his sacrifices, his Akhlaq and Adab, we take the opportunity to refresh and educate ourself and people around us on our beloved Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. The Prophet s.a.w. was blessed with seven children. He had three sons and
four daugthers. Here is a list of the children of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.
1. Qasim: He was the first child of Prophet s.a.w. He was born in Mecca. It was said that he died young, at the age of two years and some months. He was the son of Khadijah bintu Khuwailid r.a.
2. Ibrahim: He was born in Madinah during the month of Zul-Hijjah, 8 years after Hijrah. He died 10 years after Hijrah, when he was only one year and seven months old. His was the son of Maria Al-Qibtiyyah r.a.
3. Abdullah: He died after Qasim.
4. Zainab: She was the eldest daughter of Prophet s.a.w. She was the daughter of Khadijah bintu Khuwailid r.a. She was the wife of Al-‘Aas bin Ar-Rabee’. She gave birth to Ali and Umamah. When Zainab's husband embraced Islam, Prophet s.a.w. permitted her to rejoin him as a wife.
5. Ruqayyah: She was the second eldest daughter of Prophet s.a.w. She was too the daughter of Khadijah bintu Khuwailid r.a. Ruqayyah r.a. was the wife of ‘Utbah ibn Abi Lahab, but when Allah s.w.t. revealed: {May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he.} [Quran 111:1], Abu Lahab commanded ‘Utbah to divorce her, which he did. He had not yet consummated the marriage with her.
When Ruqayyah r.a. embraced Islam, she then got married to ‘Uthman r.a. and immigrated with him to Abyssinia twice. The Prophet s.a.w. said about her and ‘Uthman: “They are the first two people to migrate for the sake of Allah after the migration of Prophet Lut.”
Ruqayyah r.a. fell sick whilst the Prophet s.a.w. was preparing for the Battle of Badar. Prophet s.a.w. instructed her husband ‘Uthman r.a. to stay behind and take care of her. She died whilst he was in the battle.
6. Ummu Kulthum: She was the third daughter born to the Prophet s.a.w. and Khadijah bintu Khuwailid r a. After her sister's death, Ruqayyah r.a., she was married to ‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan r.a. When she died, the Prophet s.a.w. said: “If I had a third daughter, I would have given her also to ‘Uthman in marriage.”
7. Fatimah: She was the daughter of Khadijah bintu Khuwailid r.a. She was the dearest of the children of the Prophet s.a.w. Fatimah r.a. married ‘Ali bin Abi Talib. She was the only child who died after Prophet s.a.w.
