In a blink of an eye, Pandemic Covid 19 is reaching its 1 year mark soon. All of us, regardless of age, are slowly adapting to the new normal. Although many are still nagging about the hassle of putting on the mask when in public, checking in and out the safe entry in public places, abiding to the controlled size gatherings rule and etc but for the common good for all, people are still sticking to the rules.
Talking about the common good for all comes the issue of Covid 19 vaccines. Mufti of Singapore, Dr Nazirudin Mohd Nasir, has announced the guidance on the using of Covid 19 vaccinations and that is it is permissible for Muslims to go for Covid 19 vaccinations. Despite the guidance, there are people who then question the authority about the Halal and Haram status of the vaccinations. Again, the authority has laid out their basis and
considerations according to the Syariah for them to understand. Still these people do not understand.
Dear brothers and sisters, Allah s.w.t. bestowed us with the Aqal or intellect for a reason. And why Allah s.w.t. repeatedly used the phrase "Liqowmin Ya'qilun", or the one who tries to apply its intellect, in the Al-Quran is also for a reason. It is because Allah s.w.t. wants us to exercise the Aqal or intellect by looking at things or issue from all angel and never did Allah s.w.t. wants to develop us into a rigid and stubborn
individuals. If Allah s.w.t. wants to the develop the ummah into such, the Al-Quran must have been full with words such as obligated, ought, sought and other synonyms.
Back to the issue of Covid 19 vaccinations, if we look at it logically, if by taking it will cause more good than harm then why not take it right? For example more life could be saved, our frontliners could take some break from the hectic situation, our stressful and worrisome livelihood could be going back to normal, the Earth will be a save place for us to do Da'wah again and the Mosque will be standing proud to welcome us again for Jemaah prayer.
Then why do we still denying the guidance given by our Mufti on the permissible on the using of Covid 19 vaccinations?
Nevertheless, it goes back to the individuals what do they think is right and wrong. But what I wish to highlight here is, Islam is beautiful and simple, do not make it look rigid.
