We started off the book of 2021 by reading the life threatening chapter on COVID-19. We saw how life was taken away one by one because of the virus, how life was at stake due to the economy, how life changes 360 degrees from being able to socialize freely to social distancing. When Allah s.w.t. says Kun Fayakun, "Be, and it is", things happen.
Life is unpredictable.
On 9 January, again we had to read a chapter on life and that was the Sriwijaya airplane crash where all life on board was sacrificed. Single or married, child or adult, young or old none was excused. Again when Allah s.w.t. says Kun Fayakun, "Be, and it is", things happen.
Life is fragile.
“Seek the life to come (the Hereafter) by means of what God has granted you, but do not neglect your rightful share in this world.”
(Surah Al-Qasas, 77)
In this worldly world that we are transiting, there is no time for us to waste. Each second is precious both for us to administering our relationship with Allah s.w.t. and our relationship with humankind. We do not know when our life will come to and end. Thus, it is very important that we take every second to reflect and amend every action of ours.
But reflecting and amending is something that is very difficult for us to do because of the ego in us. The only way that we can deal with this ego is to educate ourself to practice forgiveness and letting go, practice honesty and being open, surrender your need for control, enjoy silent moments with yourself and practice gratitude.
"And do not walk on the earth with arrogance! You cannot provoke (move) the earth nor reach the mountains in height (cannot be as high as mountains)."
(Surah Al-Isra, 37)
