Towards the end of Ramadhan, the Islamic world was shaken by the news of Israel committing the crime of apartheid in Palestine. And violence has been used against the Palestians, making the world witnessing hundreds of people injured and tens martyred, mostly children. Why? Israel's number one aim has always been to take over the Palestinian's holy land of Al-Aqsa and the whole. But did you know what Al-Aqsa compound looks like?
AL-AQSA COMPOUND
THE GROUND LEVEL
The compoud of Al-Aqsa is composed of three levels.
The ground level includes Al-Aqsa Al-Qadim which is located directly beneath the Al-Qibli Mosque.
THE MIDDLE LEVEL
The middle level includes the silver/grey dome Al-Aqsa Mosque or also famously known as Al-Qibli Mosque.
It is called Al-Qibli because it is located in the direction of the Qiblah.
It was built during the Umayyad Caliphate during the time of Caliph Abdul Malik bin Marwan and was completed during the time of Al-Walid bin Abdul Malik.
THE HIGHEST LEVEL
The highest level is the Dome of the Rock.
At the center of the Dome of the Rock sits a large rock, which is believed to be the location where Abraham was prepared to sacrifice his son Ismail (Isaac in the Judeo/Christian tradition).
Today, Muslims believe that the Rock commemorates the night journey of Muhammad s.a.w.
Looking from within the Al-Aqsa compound, there is a most called the Al-Buraq Mosque. It is located beside the Moroccan Gate and it is where the Buraq Wall is located.
The Buraq Wall is believed to be the place where Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. tied the Buraq, the winged riding animal upon which he rode during Mi'raj.
While the wall on the opposite side of the Buraq Wall, the outside compound of Al-Aqsa, is what the Jews call the Wailing Wall or the Western Wall.
The Wailing Wall or the Western Wall is the most sacred place for the Jews who believe it to be the only surviving structure of the Herodian temple.
Meanwhile, do not forget to offer your prayers to our brothers and sisters who are strongly fighting to defend the holy land of Al-Aqsa and Palestine as a whole!! Your prayers play a huge part in changing their life.
