The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 is currently on going. I am pretty sure sport ethusiasts are currently busy supporting their own country or their favourite sports or their favourite atheletes. What ever the results might be, as a sport enthusiasts we should never condemn or criticize the atheletes. Nobody wants to compete to lose. Therefore, continue giving them our support. Our small positive act can give huge impact on the atheletes.
Sport is one of the activity that can help to invigorate the body as well as the mind. Sport can also help reduce our body from the risk of diseases.
Even our beloved Rasulullah s.a.w. has a few sports that he practised during his life time. Thus, this shows how sports too are encourage in Islam. Let's sit back and look at some of the sports that our beloved Rasulullah s.a.w. used to practised .
HORSE RIDING
In a hadith narrated from Ibn Umar r.a. in which our beloved Prophet s.a.w. said "Teach your children swimming, archery and horse riding".
One of the benefits of horse riding is riders can develop better reflexes and a sense of balance and coordination as they use their entire body to guide and propel the horse forward.
ARCHERY
Uqbah Bin Amir r.a. narrates that he heard Rasulullah s.a.w. saying: "Whoever gives up archery after having learnt it, is not of us..." (Muslim)
On another occasion, the Prophet s.a.w. once passed by a group of his Companions who were competing in archery. He encouraged them saying, "Shoot and I am with you." (Bukhari)
One of the benefits of playing archery is, it can help to improve our focus. This is because an archer must focus on their target, focus on their form, and ignore the distractions around them. Therefore, by constantly being focused, it can help you focus and keep calm in high-pressure situations.
SWIMMING
Ibn Umar r.a. narrates that Rasulullah s.a.w. said: "Teach your sons swimming and archery and teach your daughters sewing." (Baihaqi)
One of the benefits of swimming is, it is good exercise for the heart and lungs. Swimming trains the body to use oxygen more efficiently, which is generally reflected in declines in the resting heart rate and breathing rate. It uses the arms, the legs, and other muscle groups in between. This improves muscle strength and flexibility.
Thus, do not stop from doing sports because sports carry alot of benefits and in turn in will ease you in performing your Ibadah towards Allah s.w.t. and contributing to the Ummah.
