Introduced in 2008, the Angklung Ensemble was a simple idea to provide another avenue for students of Madrasah Aljunied to express their creative interest outside the classroom.
It was then proposed by arwah Zailani Osman or more well known as Zag Fahmoa (shown on the left) who was then the fund raiser for the madrasah. It was a simple idea to form a group of Angklunites to play tunes of Selawat (Praises for Rasulullah saw).
Once the proposal was approved, he brought in Akhi Dzul Rabull Jalil a freelance music composer and trainer to provide the necessary training and knowledge. Arwah Zailani also sponsored all the equipments back then.
From a small group of 3, it grew up to more than 30 now and the Angklung group have gone through several batches of students and alumnis.
They have also performed in many functions and events and also the whole group was brought to Bandung in 2010 for a cultural experience.

From selawats and qasidahs, the ensemble also tries to break away to playing popular tunes like "Ombak Rindu" - a popular song.

Early this December 2013, Arwah Zailani proposed again to do a concert to get the students to perform on this 25th December 2013 (tomorrow). Event was approved but sadly arwah passed on last Friday, 20th December 2013. Despite this setback, preparations have already been made and in his last message he advised us to proceed on with the event.
This event is not just another fund raising event but also a dedication to a special man that has brought many smiles to people around him.
Your support is greatly appreciated. |
