Talk: Understanding the Astronomical Aspect of Islamic Calendar - Crescent Sighting

Astronomy is considered as one of the most important knowledge in Islam. So important that it touches many aspects of lives such as in determining the time of prayers, important months in Islam and sighting of the crescent Moon (Hilal). Participants will go through the theories of Islamic calendar such as crescent sighting.

Talk: Introduction to Astronomy 

In this talk, the speaker will introduce participants about the basics of astronomy, the celestial objects that exist in the Universe such as the planets, stars, nebulaes and galaxies. Participants will also explore the magnitude of the universe by going through the positions of the celestial objects in the universe. At the end of the lecture, participants will observe the sky through a telescope. If the weather permits, participants will be able to observe planet Jupiter or Moon.

You can also go to Woodlands Galaxy Community Club and register at our Customers Service Centre (Level 1) from 10:00am to 9:00pm Everyday except Public Holidays. Registration ends on Sunday 2 March 2014.
