Perseverance through adversity

Imagine being afflicted by a serious illness. The medical bills are mounting and you have no way to pay for them. Imagine also having three children who depend on you and you do not know how their next meal will be paid for.

Imagine being in a long, abusive relationship and finally finding the courage to leave. You are now solely responsible for your two young children. Where do you go? How do you survive?

Imagine your husband passes away and you become a single mother overnight. You have no skills to survive in the working world after being a stay-at-home mother for 10 years. How do you enter the working world and at the same time care for your children?

What kind of help would you want and need? How do you persevere through these adversities? Who do you turn to?

These are just some of what our clients under AMP's Adopt a Family & Youth Scheme (AFYS) have gone through. While their stories may differ, their perseverance and determination to push through their adversities and to come out stronger is common to all of them.

AFYS assists these families to regain their independence and self-reliance by equipping them with skills, helping their children through a variety of socio-educational schemes, programmes and activities, and most of all, AFYS helps to strengthen their family unit.

We are currently running a month-long telepoll campaign on WARNA 94.2FM during which our clients will share their stories, experiences and hopes for the future.

Listen to how she and her family are overcoming their struggles after her husband had a serious heart attack, leaving the family in a difficult financial position to sustain their livelihood.
