Hope you are blessed with the best of health and iman. Although its a non Muslim holiday in Singapore, its still a break from the hectic work schedule and to catch up with family time and we hope you are having a great rest.

A little reformatting for our newsletter. Just to keep it fresh. Insyallah we will feature the khutbahs by the office of Mufti weekly so that it can also be relayed to those who don't attend Solat Jumaah.

KHUTBAH

In today's khutbah, the Office of Mufti have published the following khutbah on "The Importance Of Being Guided By A Teacher In Seeking Religious Knowledge"

" Acquiring true, authentic Islamic knowledge requires a qualified teacher. The necessity of an educator and the educator’s role to guide a person on the path to attain Allah’s pleasure is pivotal. This week's Friday sermon would like to share the importance of balance approach that should be our guiding principle in life.

One also needs to ensure that they seek knowledge, and learn from many different teachers and scholars, and not just one teacher. This will expose us to the different understandings and thought processes, and at the same time help mature our thinking and spirituality as a seeker of knowledge. It was a tradition of the scholars to learn from various teachers.

We must also be smart in choosing a teacher that is qualified and fulfils the guidelines of syariah. It is best for us to seek a teacher or educator who is qualified to guide us with authentic knowledge, and can be a source of reference for our families and ourselves."

ISLAMIC FUNERAL & DEATH RITES COURSE

Death is certain. It will happen to us and it will also happen to our family members.

This course is to equip you with current knowledge and practises for such an event when it occurs. It is even more important for the men (leaders of the family) to learn this so that when death happens in the family, he/she would know how to react.

Example.

Why does the deceased needs to be put to coroner's case and leave it overnight when he/she passed away in hospital?

Many whom have not went through this process will end up being angry with the hospital staff and the police and begin scolding them and so on.

One of the misconception people have when death happen in the family, they want to settle it immediately ignoring protocols, laws and procedures. The reality is not so simple. Some deaths will take days to settle. In Islam is not about "immediately". It's about settling it "as soon as possible". It is important that you know the difference.

So imagine if one of your relatives got involve in an Airplane crash similar to Airasia incident. The search for the bodies takes days or months. How then do you deal with this.

So its important to take care of our manners while processes like coroners case (if ever happens), embalming (if arwah passed away overseas and send back here) and other kinds of cases emerge. It's really a test of patience.

So what is embalming?
Who bathes the transgender. The men or the ladies?

So much to learn and so much to know..

Hence this course is not just about bathing and wrapping the dead. There's more to it.
