Shine the Light of Hope
Mdm Zimah's (not her real name) hopes to build a better life with her second marriage were dashed when she became a victim of domestic violence. While pregnant, she suffered medical complications from gallstones. However, instead of providing comfort or relief, her husband simply continued with his verbal and mental abuse towards her. After a year of enduring his anger outbursts and gambling addiction, Mdm Zimah decided to file for divorce at the end of 2013, and
struggled through financial and housing issues. Her journey towards single-handedly building a better life for herself and her three children continues till today.
These are just some of what our clients under AMP’s Adopt a Family & Youth Scheme (AFYS) have gone through. While their stories may differ, their perseverance and determination to push through their adversities and to come out stronger is common to all of them.

will be speaking to an AFYS client, who faced domestic violence in her second marriage and how the family is rebuilding their life for the better.
AFYS assists these families to regain their independence and self-reliance by equipping them with skills, helping their children through a variety of socio-educational schemes, programmes and activities, and most of all, AFYS helps to strengthen their family unit.
