In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Alhamdulillah we are now on the 3rd day of Ramadan. We hope that your Ramadan has been amazing so far! How about Tarawih? Do you find it hard to perform Tarawih prayers at night? Although Tarawih is sunnah, it should be carried out with full sincerity and concentration. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) did not impose a specific number of Raka'ahs on his Ummah. The minimum is 2 Raka'ahs, whereas the maximum is the number one can afford. Does this mean that Tarawih can be
offered more than 20 Raka'ahs? The answer is yes. Can it then be offered less than 8 Raka'ahs? The answer is also yes!
We should reflect on the quality of the Raka'ahs of Tarawih prayers that we offer, and try our best to be consistent with our sincerity in performing our Tarawih. The Tarawih of the one who offers only two Raka'ahs, with better concentration, sincerity, and focused communication with Allah (supplication) is better than that of the one who offers twenty Raka'ahs. Whether we decide to offer eight Raka'ahs, more or less, it is very important that one does not become the cause for an entire mosque to offer only 8 Raka'ahs, in accordance to his desire or wish. You can always leave after 8 Raka'ahs, and allow the Tarawih to continue. There's nothing wrong in doing this. Prayers, even if offered as sunnah, remains as ibadah. We should always strive to perform our ibadah (of various kinds) with the highest level of sincerity and effort, and continue to renew our intentions. Umar Ibn Al-Khattab (RA) relates that: “I heard Rasulullah (SAW) saying, “Verily actions are by intentions, and for every person is what he intended…” (Bukhari; Muslim) Rasulullah (SAW) said in a hadith narrated by Muslim: "Whoever spends the nights of Ramadan in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward [from Allah], his previous sins will be forgiven." We are looking for teams to build technology, whether it's in the format of a Mobile App, a Web App or a Hardware implementation - or a combination - we want to see how you innovate. It could be a game, a matchmaking service or even just an info website, but we want it to be cool :) There will be a free android development workshop coming up this Sunday.
