Newsletter: Tarawih Prayers

Assalamualaikum Wr Wb,

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Thank you for subscribing to our mailing list. InshaAllah this email finds you and your family in the best of health and imaan.

Alhamdulillah we are now on the 3rd day of Ramadan. We hope that your Ramadan has been amazing so far! How about Tarawih? Do you find it hard to perform Tarawih prayers at night? Although Tarawih is sunnah, it should be carried out with full sincerity and concentration. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) did not impose a specific number of Raka'ahs on his Ummah. The minimum is 2 Raka'ahs, whereas the maximum is the number one can afford. Does this mean that Tarawih can be offered more than 20 Raka'ahs? The answer is yes. Can it then be offered less than 8 Raka'ahs? The answer is also yes!

We should reflect on the quality of the Raka'ahs of Tarawih prayers that we offer, and try our best to be consistent with our sincerity in performing our Tarawih. The Tarawih of the one who offers only two Raka'ahs, with better concentration, sincerity, and focused communication with Allah (supplication) is better than that of the one who offers twenty Raka'ahs.

Whether we decide to offer eight Raka'ahs, more or less, it is very important that one does not become the cause for an entire mosque to offer only 8 Raka'ahs, in accordance to his desire or wish. You can always leave after 8 Raka'ahs, and allow the Tarawih to continue. There's nothing wrong in doing this.

Prayers, even if offered as sunnah, remains as ibadah. We should always strive to perform our ibadah (of various kinds) with the highest level of sincerity and effort, and continue to renew our intentions. Umar Ibn Al-Khattab (RA) relates that: “I heard Rasulullah (SAW) saying, “Verily actions are by intentions, and for every person is what he intended…” (Bukhari; Muslim)

Rasulullah (SAW) said in a hadith narrated by Muslim: "Whoever spends the nights of Ramadan in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward [from Allah], his previous sins will be forgiven."

May Allah make it easy for us, and bless our efforts in attaining His love and mercy. May this upcoming Ramadan be the best Ramadan for all of us. Ameen

Innamal a'malu binniyat - “Actions are dependent upon their Intentions”

Ideas form from all places, why not we nurture ideas from the the most pure and sacred place of our community, that is the Mosque.

Mosque Tech Challenge is on again this year!

Mosque Tech Challenge is a 24hr+ Hackathon Competition that aims to give youths a platform to seek, implement and share the best and coolest ideas with technology towards the benefit of the community.

This year we will be aligning ourselves with the Ramadhan theme - "Rahmah" and explore how technology can build communities and bring people closer. We are looking for teams to build technology, whether it's in the format of a Mobile App, a Web App or a Hardware implementation - or a combination - we want to see how you innovate. It could be a game, a matchmaking service or even just an info website, but we want it to be cool :)

There will be a free android development workshop coming up this Sunday. Register for the workshop here!

For more info on the Mosque Tech Challenge, click here! Register now as space is limited.

This year Infaq.SG hopes to welcome Ramadan with the spirit of giving.

Organised by Ikhwan Services, Project Iftar Cambodia 2017 aims to sponsor iftar at four different villages daily for the entire month of Ramadan. There are about 100 - 150 people per location.

Click here to find out more! :)

Free Food For All has organised a special campaign to provide Iftar Meals for the needy Muslims who are under the category of fakir and miskin. They aim to provide for 150 of such families in various locations in Singapore. These families have been identified by various social services and organisations.

The areas of service are in Tampines, Chai Chee, Eunos, MacPherson, Boon Lay and Marsiling.

Don't fret, if you are not able to contribute financially, you can also help by lending us your energy! This campaign requires many hands to help out. If you wish to volunteer for this project, please contact Bro Nizar @ 9656 7280.
