Opening Up to Overseas EventsWe have added a new category to open up to overseas events. As we very connected to the world these days, Singaporeans are also flying from places to places and hence it's good to know what's going on overseas too. We can use them as examples or case studies for future references and also to start opening up to global networks. So the first overseas event features a 5KM/10KM run to raise money for this organisation called - Muslim Youth Helpline. Bro Luqman also shared a link to help us know more about this Organisation in UK. So visit this link to learn about how the 18 year old teenager started this from his home. This is similar to what we have in Singapore, The NUR Helpline. Nur Helpline is meant to help teenagers who have problems and wish to seek help. Fund RaisingWe are opening up a new segmant to support Mosque's that are raising funds. In this month till June, Islamicevents.sg is collaborating with Assyakirin Mosque's to help them raise funds to help them get new carpets for the mosque. So please view this page to know a little more about this. Featured BloggerWell this Blogger have not written about any event but his articles are to explain clearly what Islam is all about and so on. Here's a short snippet from one of the article. Who is Allah? The name "Allah" is a word that is heard quite often these days whether it is on the television or passed along in conversation. But most non-Muslims have no idea who Allah is. Just the name "Allah" is so shrouded in mystery because most people never take the time to unravel the meaning. Rather they believe what they see portrayed in the heavily biased media and allow their fears to take hold of their chests instead of seeking out the truth for themselves. Some non-Muslims mistakenly believe that Allah is a holy deity or some sort of idol that Muslims worship similar to the way in which Buddhists worship Buddha. Others mistakenly think that Allah is an "Arab god," or a "moon god." The meaning of Allah is so simple. Allah is the Arabic form of the word "The One True God". Muslims prefer to call God by His proper name, Allah, and refrain from using the word "god" itself since it can be attributed to so many other things. For example, in proper English, the feminine form of "god" is "goddess". Allah is a name that is neither feminine nor masculine, and it cannot be made plural (unlike god, gods, goddess, etc). Islamic Philosophy of Economics: An IntroductionStarting on the 11th of May 2009 Islamic Economics is the only viable wholly independent, alternative economic paradigm in the world today. It offers real solutions to today's economic as well as sociopolitical problems that have its roots in the excesses and disequilibrium nature of conventional Economics. Islamic Economics is based on principles that offer the best alternative with extensive set of parameters for economic activities. In theory as well as in practice, these parameters are both descriptive as well as prescriptive and put forward a comprehensive and coherent economic mechanism resulting in greater Economic Justice and equity than that seen in Western conventional economics. Importantly, Islamic Economics details the roles and responsibilities of Man as economic agents as well as servants of Allah s.w.t. so that he could truly attain the status of Khalifah on this Earth. This intensive 8 session (4 weeks) course introduces Economics as understood in the conventional western sense as well as when it is understood as an integral part of the Islamic way of life. Basic concepts and assumptions in Economics will be studied with a solid base of the philosophical underpinnings of Economics as conceived and practiced in the West and comparing these philosophical underpinnings with those that are based on Islamic teachings. Contemporary economic phenomenon and issues such as Globalisation, the Knowledge Based Economy as well as the re-emergence of the Islamic Gold Dinar will also be discussed.* Philosophy of Islamic and non-Islamic Economics * Review of Basic Conventional Assumptions in Economics Course Fees: $330.00 includes notes & refreshments [$30.00 off for full time students] Mondays & Wednesdays, 7.30 - 10.30 pm Venue: Level 3, Pergas, Wisma Indah 448 Changi Road (besides Masjid Kassim) To register please drop by Pergas @ Wisma Indah.
