Thalatha Scoop
Last year, we had asked for writers to come forward with their ideas, opinions and articles. There is little doubt that writing can be influential, inspiring and instrumental. This project has culminated into what we would call - " Thalatha Scoop ". We are empowering our readers to be writers instead, to let your voices be heard, to ignite life into our civil society, to broaden horizons and to challenge long-standing notions.
Objectives:
Initially, we had wanted to get around 150 articles to create a resource of reading materials to create social awareness on Islam in Singapore. It was our hope to reach out to those who had no access to classes or other reading material to get information from our newsletter and hopefully it would inspire them to read more & learn more. We also wanted it to be a promotion for the writers to showcase their writing prowess while they leverage on our traffic and audience and hopefully, open more doors for them in the future. The bigger dream for this project was engage people in discussion, to eventually find solutions for the Muslim community in Singapore, be it in finance, education, societal ills or spirituality.
Starting from 14th July 2009 (a Tuesday, and therefore called Thalatha Scoop) we would be publishing the articles on a weekly basis. These articles are written by you, on what you feel is important, to get responses from yourselves.
Anais Nin says, "The role of a writer is not to say what we all can say, but what we are unable to say."
String those thoughts you have into words, format them into presentable paragraphs, do a short write-up on yourself and email them all to info@islamicevents.sg.
Sylvia Plath said: Everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.
And I say, Get writing.

Report from our friend, Faizal from Alnitak who studies Astronomy.
A solar eclipse will occur on Wednesday, 22 July 2009. The path of the Moon's umbral shadow begins in India and crosses through Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar and China. In some parts of these countries, observers will experience a total solar eclipse.
In Singapore, observers will not experience a total eclipse but a partial one (weather permitting). At maximum, about 10% of the Sun will be covered. Singapore will experience the eclipse on 22 July 2009 from 8:40 a.m. to 9:44 a.m. The maximum (10% covered) will occur at 9:11 a.m. Muslims are encouraged to perform the eclipse prayer after witnessing the eclipse.
