Khutbah this week
~ This Week's Messages - 18 June 2010 ~
Providing Maintenance - Duty and Compassion Towards Our Dependants.
This week's khutbah stresses husband's responsibility to provide their family needs and ensure their financial well-being.
· Providing maintenance for family is a priority, above all other forms of spending or contributions.
· Neglecting the family maintenance will not only affect the basic needs of our children, but also to their education too.
· Ensuring the stability and success of a society depends on its family institutions.

TRADITIONAL ISLAMIC ART WORKSHOP FOR TEENS (Age: 13+ yrs)
This hands on workshop introduces teenagers to the art of manuscript illumination from the Islamic tradition. Artist Sister Unaiza Karim will offer students an opportunity to produce a small decorative roundel 'shamsa' or ornamental tree motif 'shujaira' on hand treated paper (both motifs are commonly found in the decorated margins of illuminated Qurans).
Sister Unaiza Karim has a Masters Degree from Princes School of Traditional Arts, London. She also trained with a Master Illuminator In Istanbul, Turkey. Her work generally centres on the pages of the Holy Qur'an, which she presents with the elements of calligraphy, geometry and Islimi (arabesque), reflecting the rhythm of nature. In 2004 she was the Winner of Barakat Prize 2004 for Arts and Heritage: Ashmoleum Museum Oxford. Her works have been exhibited in the UK and internationally. With a Distinction in her Bachelors Degree in Education, she regularly runs workshops for both children and adults, specialising in teaching arts and crafts from the east, using traditional methods and materials in a range of Traditional Islamic Arts. Unaiza is British and lives in London.

What Is Cupping
Cupping al-Hijamah is a method of treating in which a jar is attached to the skin surface to course a local congestion through the negative pressure created by introducing heat in the form of ignited material. This type of treatment has been practise by the Arabs and the Chinese for thousand of years.
In Malay, this practice is known as 'Bekam' and in Arabic 'Al-Hijamah' This therapy has been popularised by our Prophet Mohammad SAW ( 570 - 635 A D ) as stated in many hadith.
