NS Preparation for Muslims"Sedia, senang diri, fall in and keluar baris".This will be the sounds and regular rythm that a young man will go through the NS journey. They will also hear the command to draw weapons, do push ups, do pull ups and "cheong sua" to the knoll and often people will tell the nasty tales of powder bath in the middle of pulau tekong and the lady in white that haunts the northern part of that little island. Or the graves that exists there too. Hmmm.. To people like myself who has ORD and am serving the Reservist, such tales are pretty much common. Yes we hear it all the time, however it usually is very uncommon to hear someone do their solat while in camp what more in the middle of the jungle. Even in reservist. This NSmen are much older and yet its the same. Why? Do you wonder? My only explaination is that its not being practised from the beginning and that is why as we grow older, we become complacent to do our solat. So this should start early. Yes from the day that young man starts his Basic Military Training, Basic SCDF training or Basic Police training, that is the time that such practises needs to start. There will definitely be situations where you are not able to perform the Solat especially during excercises and missions. This is more relevant to the Army boys but there should not be excuses that you can't perform the solat during admin periods even in the middle of the jungle. So how exactly do you perform the solat in Jungle situations? This is where this workshop, NS Preparation for Muslims plays an essential role in developing that young Muslim to prepare for the next 2 years and more. We have been to the previous sessions before, Bro Sameer (LTA(NS)) and team are really passionate to get this knowledge pass down to the younger generation. Besides the Islamic Knowledge, the young Muslim can also gain a tip or two to perform better during their NS days. Such as those who wish to become an Officer in the Army, SCDF or Police. This session is F.REE. To register please contact Bro Sameer @ 9669 8512 AdvertsVisit www.theawesomemagiccompany.com to get more details.
Women Around the Messenger Review by: Khatim Hamidon
Most books on the great women in Islam focus on the Prophetʼs wives and daughters. This book records down more than that. It neatly categorizes the women of the Prophet into four distinct groups: the mother figures in his life, his wives, his daughters and the female Companions (Sahabah). The narration, and the women, are predominantly arranged in such a way that the reader could absorb the timeline of events easily and appreciate the fact that contributions by the women were part and parcel, and not the exception, in the making of Islamic history. Of course, "Women Around the Messenger" contains the almost-mandatory stories on the popular female icons in Islamic lore, such as the Prophetʼs most beloved wife Sayyidatina Khadeejah, and his favourite daughter, Sayyidatina Fatimah Az-Zahra. These stories may already be well known and oft-repeated, but the author took the pain (or rather, the pleasure) of describing the importance of these women in his life, and how the Prophet himself embraced his role as a husband and a father.
